As every runner toes the start line, within them resides the story that carried them there. Those stories are made up of moments that culminate in milestones.
The history of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series is made of moments and milestones created by runners just like you. In honor of our 20th anniversary celebration, we invite runners to share their most memorable running moments with us.
This is the story of Allison E. from Boulder, CO.
Husband Beams as Wife Completes First Marathon
Allison Eggleston knocked off her first 26.2-miler at Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona, finishing in 4 hours, 38 minutes, and no one was beaming brighter than her husband.
“I could not be more proud,” said Jeffrey, who didn’t exactly loaf Sunday, winning the event’s half marathon in 1:04:50. “This whole winter she was doing the marathon buildup while taking classes and holding down a full-time job.”
The couple lives in Boulder, CO, and Allison works in fundraising at the University of Colorado.
“She did all her long runs, despite the snow,” said Jeffrey. “She showed a great level of commitment.”
Jeffrey owns PRs of 1:02:41 in the half and 2:10:52 in the marathon. As for the 30-year-old, she describes herself as an “introductory” runner.
“I run to stay in shape,” she said.
Allison wanted to run the marathon for multiple reasons. She grew up in Tucson and loves the desert environment. Plus, she wanted to experience the pleasure and pain that her husband does.
“Growing up here, I love the landscape,” Allison said. “And now I kind of understand the pain my husband goes through.”
Besides seeing the Phoenix area by foot, Allison said another highlight was experiencing the marathon emotions.
“Just going through the mental side of it, which I’d heard about numerous times from so many people” she said. “To actually experience that? That was the coolest part.”
