In October 2014, 6-year-old Kiara developed headaches that worsened over time. When she began vomiting from the pain, her parents took her to the ER, where tests revealed a mass on her brain. She underwent surgery at a hospital near her home in Arizona to remove the tumor.
After surgery, Kiara was unable to walk or talk. Her family was referred to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® for her continuing treatment, which included chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
Runners who fundraise for St. Jude are helping kids, like Kiara. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
Kiara is again able to talk and she’s relearning how to walk. “She’s compassionate and kind,” said her dad. “She wants to make people happy.” Kiara, who loves to paint and draw and sing, recently finished treatment and now visits St. Jude for regular checkups.Run For St. Jude
