NEW YORK – March 11, 2015 – It’s 13.1-miles of Rock ‘n’ Roll. And runners like it. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series is returning to Brooklyn this year with a new half-marathon on Saturday, October 10. The Rock ‘n’ Roll Brooklyn Half Marathon will tour the streets of Brooklyn, starting at Grand Army Plaza and finishing at the Nethermead in Prospect Park. Registration will open on Monday, March 16 with a special $55 early entry fee. Event capacity will be limited to 17,500 runners.
“If Brooklyn’s a-rockin’ DO come a-knockin’! I’m pleased to announce that Brooklyn will become home to a Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon taking place this October,” said Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams. “This event is a win-win-win; the half-marathon will further elevate our borough into a premier tourist destination, have significant economic impact, and advance the important message of proactive health and wellness. We look forward to welcoming runners from around the world this fall.”
First held in 2011 as a 10k in Prospect Park, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Brooklyn will bring the series’ signature block-party atmosphere to 13.1-miles of New York’s scenic tree-lined streets. On race day, participants can expect motivation along every mile of the course – from entertainment and music to cheering spectators and picturesque surroundings.
“It’s been quite the journey to bring a Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon to Brooklyn, and we are very appreciative of all the support we’ve received from the city and all the city agencies,” said Josh Furlow, Executive Vice-President of Global Events for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series. “It’s an honor to be able to bring our first half-marathon to Brooklyn. We look forward to providing an unmatched event experience to New York area runners.”
Race weekend will kick off with a two-day Health & Fitness Expo at the Brooklyn Expo Center featuring the latest and greatest endurance retailers and exhibitors. Event weekend concludes with an energetic finish line festival in the beautiful Prospect Park.
The event joins the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series’ global tour schedule of 31 destinations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, England, Ireland, Portugal and Spain. Over the 18-year history of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series, charity participants have raised more than $305 million for a variety of worthy causes and nonprofit organizations. Rock ‘n’ Roll Brooklyn will also partner with the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to provide a platform for participants to run for blood cancer research.
