Whether you’ve rocked and rolled with us in Chicago before or it’s been on your bucket list, we’ve got 10 reasons to join us in 2018 for the Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon!
1. Something for everyone.
Let’s start with the race. There are so many ways to rock Chicago – from a 5K, 10K or Half Marathon distance, to volunteering with our Race Crew or simply coming out to be an awesome spectator, there’s something for everyone at Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago. And there’s something for everyone in the city itself, so read on and get ready to experience the city off the course!
2. Neighborhoods galore.
Speaking of something for everyone, there’s also a place for everyone. Chicago’s home to over 100 different neighborhoods, and this eclectic bunch ranges from Lincoln Park’s picturesque streets and charismatic townhouses, Wicker Park’s artsy-indie scene, and Gold Coast’s boutique-lined streets, to the dapper urban hub of River North, the college-town vibe of Hyde Park, and many, many more.
3. The Food.
Chicago-style, deep-dish pizza. Chicago-style hot dogs. Chicago-style anything is good in our books, but as a major metropolitan city, this place is also home to five-star restaurants, awesome bars, and unique eateries you won’t find anywhere else. Check out some of our staff favorites here.
4. Go, sports!
Even if you’re not a sports fan – or a Chicago sports fan – there’s something to be said about catching a Cubs game at Wrigley Field or even cheering alongside patrons in a bar. Blackhawks hockey games, Bears football games, Bulls basketball games … the list goes on!
From art galleries and museums to music venues and theaters, Chicago’s got the arts covered. There are more than 250 theaters, 225 music venues and 56 museums in the city, plus over 700 public art works. The Bean, anyone?
One form of art? Architecture. And Chicago’s got some world renowned architecture. Even if it’s not “your thing,” you can’t go to Chicago without taking a ride on one of the famous architecture river cruises – the best way to see and learn about the buildings you run by!
7. It’s bikeable.
If museums and art galleries aren’t really your thing but being outside is, don’t miss the opportunity to grab a bike. With the Divvy bike share program and tons of places to rent bikes, you can cruise Chicago on your own or as part of a tour.
And while you’re doing all that outdoor exploring, plan on hitting the beach to cool off after your race. Yes, that’s right, we said beach. Given its proximity to giant Lake Michigan, Chicago offers 26 miles of lakefront beaches. Walk, run, swim, bike, sail, play volleyball or just relax on one of Chicago’s beaches, which are free and open from May ’til September.
9. Midwestern charm.
And speaking of people from the Midwest … we love ’em! Chicago has the best of the big city with that lovable Midwestern charm.
10. Summer in the city.
While July in Chicago can be hot, on warmer weekends, we have all the cooling elements you need to have a safe, fun race … and we’ve also had weekends where the weather is absolutely perfect for running. Most importantly, summer in the city itself is a beautiful thing. Experience the rooftop bars, beaches, and general good vibes that come with summer in Chicago.
