United Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll Washington D.C. Announces 2017 Changes

Marathon and half marathon to start at different times to accommodate Metro construction; Annual road race returns to Washington D.C. on Saturday, March 11, 2017

Washington D.C. – January 24, 2017 – United Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll Washington D.C. Marathon & ½ Marathon has adjusted the start times of the marathon and half marathon to accommodate for participant transportation. The marathon will now start at 7am at Constitution Ave at 14th St. NW with the half marathon starting at 8:30 am from the same location.

After a heartfelt rendering of the national anthem within sight of iconic monuments like the Washington Monument, runners started out down the broad expanse of Constitution Avenue that runs alongside the National Mall.

Shuttles will be offered from the finish line at RFK stadium to transport marathon participants to the start line beginning at 5:00am. Shuttles are free for participants only but must be reserved. Half marathon participants are encouraged to take the metro which begins operation at 7:00am as there are convenient stations located near the start and the finish. Parking is available for purchase in the lots around RFK stadium and marathon participants are encouraged to reserve a spot on the shuttle. All race weekend transportation details can be found at RunRocknRoll.com/DC/the-weekend/travel/.

“We want to provide as seamless a race day experience as possible for our runners,” said Alex Bennett, Vice President of Events for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series. “With the FastTrack construction, we are not able to open the metro early as in past years. We hope the new changes will allow for our runners to focus on their race without having to worry about transportation.”

About 24,000 runners are expected to take the streets as United Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll Washington D.C. returns on March 11, 2017 with the marathon, half marathon, and 5K. As the only marathon completely within the District of Columbia, participants get the chance to run through the streets of our nation’s capital passing many distinguished monuments, buildings, and national symbols. Live music and bands will entertain participants as they run along the scenic course, all the way to the finish line outside of RFK Stadium where The Family Stone will perform for runners and spectators.

Race weekend kicks off with a free Health & Fitness Expo where runners can pick up their race weekend packet.  Exhibitors will offer free samples, showcase the latest in running gear, sports apparel, health and nutritional information and much more. The Expo takes place on Thursday, March 9 from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday, March 10 from 10:00 am to 7:00 p.m. The Expo is free and open to the public, located at The DC Armory.
