The Best Start Line in the Series

A ticket to ROCK your run in D.C. also means VIP access to America’s political and cultural capital on foot on race day. The marathon and half marathon Start Lines are located on the National Mall on Constitution Ave., the heartbeat of Capitol Hill that’s chocked full of national landmarks. Look to your right and see the Smithsonian Museum and Andrew Mellon Auditorium. Look to your left and you see the Washington Monument and on your right the Elipse lawn where the National Christmas tree is erected each year. Within steps of crossing the Start Line you see the U.S. Interior Museum, Lincoln Memorial and its reflecting pools before continuing up the Potomac.


Military Challenge

A unique race-within-a-race offered at exclusive Rock ‘n’ Roll Tour Stops, the inaugural Military Challenge kicked off in 2015 and continues to grow each year. The unique experience allows veterans and currently registered Armed Service members to represent their branch and race against other service branches for bragging rights and official awards. The top three overall male and female finishers by distance receive awards, but the real fun comes from seeing how you or your service branch stacked up against others.

Ranked Among Best Races in D.C. & World’s Top 10 Destinations Runs

In 2016 the United Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll Washington DC Marathon & 1/2 Marathon was ranked among the Top 9 Organized Races, Marathons & Triathlons to Check Out in Washington D.C. Up against stiff competition like Reebok Ragnar Washington D.C. and the Marine Corps Marathon, Rock ‘n’ Roll DC set itself a part with its unique musical tie-ins throughout the event, including live bands on course and a Finish Line headliner concert with past acts including Tower of Power, The Family Stone and other greats.

In 2017 it made the list of Fodor’s Travel The World’s Best City Runs in the World among world renowned sites like the Eiffel Tower, London’s Hyde Park and a clockwise route around Jerusalem’s Old City walls. The National Mall itself was the most notable element of D.C.’s ranking, packing several cultural and historical landmarks within a four mile loop that skirts past the U.S. Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and several other museums.
