Michael George and Angie George traveled 1,700 miles from Oklahoma to run in the Transamerica Rock ’n’ Roll Half Marathon in San Francisco, and they crossed the finish line, George had only one question for Angie: “Can I stop yet?!”
The husband and wife team ran the entire course together. Near the end, they joined hands, raising them aloft as they ran the final blocks down Larkin Street to the finish at Civic Center Plaza in front of San Francisco’s City Hall.
After participating in last month’s Humana Rock ’n’ Roll races in New Orleans, the couple traveled to the City by the Bay for the race and to celebrate their 14th wedding anniversary.
“Totally different course from New Orleans,” commented Michael George, noting the changes in elevation that served as a marked contrast to the relatively flat course in New Orleans.
Said Angie, “I loved starting at the beach but the hills were a beast. This course doesn’t play!”
So, does the couple that runs together stay together?
According to the Georges, the answer is a resounding “yes”.
Said Michael George, as he slipped his medal around his neck, “we hunt together, we fish together…” and before he could finish his sentence, his wife completed the thought. “…and we run together!” she said.
