2,789 generous participant’s from last year’s race offered their thoughts on their experience. We dove in, read every single one, and came up with a handful of improvements that YOU deserve! Here are some of those below:
1) An ALL NEW Wave Plan
We don’t want to just get you across the start line and send you on your merry way. We want to make sure you are running around participants of a similar pace, have room to get in your groove and enjoy yourself! Along with communicating specific start times for each participant, we will be increasing the staff and secuirty presence to ensure ALL participants are starting in their assigned corral.
2) Turf to Stretch & Rest Your Legs Pre-Race
With the Snoop Dogg concert before the race, you’ll most likely be on your legs a bit more than you’re used to doing before a race. To combat that, we reccomend you get down to the start line festival and grab a space on the turf to sit down, stretch, rest your legs and enjoy the show! For those who are not starting in the first wave, you can hang out a bit longer until it is time to get to your corral.
3) More Course Bathrooms
If you ran last year, you’ll remember the “Porto Party” at the Start Line Festival where we had 500+ in one lot. We’ll be doing that again, but know we need to beef up the amount on course. Always remember to look out for the banks of bathrooms at each water station on course, as those will be the largest.
4) More Course Entertainment
At least three new stages will be set up on course in the places you need it most. It’s the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon after all. Get ready to run/dance/party through the most famous street in the world. Kissed Alive (pictured below) is always one of our favorites!
5) Wind Resistant & Lit Up Mile Markers
If you ran last year, you’ll remember the wind was whippin’! We had to take the mile markers down to make sure the mile markers didn’t fall and take down any runners. This year though, we’ll be ready.
6) Drawstring Bags After You Finish
Not only will you be getting your drawstring bag at the Expo for Gear Check, but GEICO will be providing all finishers with bags to help you carry your post race refreshments through the secure zone and back to your home base! We know the secure zone can be a bit of a walk after you finish–0.4 miles to be exact–but we assure you it is necessary to ensure a smooth exit experience for all participants, especially at the peak finishing times.
Haven’t registered yet? The FINAL price increase for ALL distances is Monday, October 3 at 11:59pm PT!
