Team CHOCOLATE MILK Athlete Takes On Impressive Year-Long Challenge: 52 Marathons in 52 Weeks

As a long-time endurance athlete, Team CHOCOLATE MILK member Dougin Walker has a passion for training hard, but competing even harder. Walker boasts an impressive race portfolio including several Ironman distance races, the famous Paris-Brest-Paris bike event and countless marathons and triathlons across the world. In celebration of turning 51 last year, Walker set out on a new personal challenge – to run 52 marathons in 52 weeks in all 50 states (plus Washington D.C. and St. Croix)…all in one year. He kicked off his journey in April 2016 at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in Raleigh, with sights set on finishing in March of 2017.

After swimming in college, Walker took up running at the age of 22 in search of a new sport. Within a few months he competed in his first triathlon in Norfolk, VA.  Within a year, he set out to take on his first marathon. While he didn’t finish, this was the first of many endurance events for Walker. The next year, after a little more training, he finished the Marine Corps Marathon in 3 hours and 33 minutes. Since then, Walker has continued to participate in endurance events, completing at least one triathlon every year.

For Walker, one of the best parts about racing is the training, saying he’s the happiest when he stays active. Known by his fellow Team CHOCOLATE MILK athletes for his unwavering determination, Walker is always there with a smile on his face…as long as there is lowfat chocolate milk waiting for him at the end to help him recover. Walker credits effective post-exercise recovery – with chocolate milk – for his success as an endurance athlete, and for keeping him injury-free, especially throughout this past year.

“Recovery is crucial to getting back out for the next race, especially as I prepare for 52 finish lines in one year,” Walker says. “Lowfat chocolate milk has essential nutrients I need to recover strong so I can keep up with my ambitious training and race schedule. Plus, I know I can find it wherever I’m racing.” Through Team CHOCOLATE MILK, Walker says he has found more than just a group of like-minded active people. His teammates have been a vital support system along his journey – his cheerleaders, advocates and mentors. Walker has recovered with chocolate milk since his early twenties, and in 2013, he joined a passionate group of athletes on Team CHOCOLATE MILK.

Walker represents Team CHOCOLATE MILK alongside fellow professional athletes, including World Champion triathlete Mirinda Carfrae, Gold medal swimmers Tyler Clary and Jessica Hardy, NBA All-Star Klay Thompson, World Cup soccer champion Kelley O’Hara and Professional Men’s Hockey Player Zach Parise. This group of athletes understands how the high-quality protein and nutrients in lowfat chocolate milk can help them recover and rebuild their muscles after tough workouts – so they can get back out and give it their all in their next workout or competition.

At the time of publication, Walker is one month out from making his mark in mark in 52 races with less than eight races to go. He will conclude the year at the Ocean Drive Marathon in Cape May, N.J., on March 26th, 2017.
