Stay tuned for the 2018 headliner announcement!

Headliner Act at the Toyota Rock 'n' Roll Concert Series

Theo Katzman rocked as the headliner for the Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series at the 2017 United Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll Los Angeles Half Marathon! Stay tuned for who’s next in 2018!

If you’ve heard the name Theo Katzman recently, you probably know him as the singing drummer and guitarist in the funk band Vulfpeck. But with his 2017 release, Heartbreak Hits, Katzman returns to his roots as a rock and roll inspired singer/songwriter. A 10-song collection of musings on loss and letdown, Heartbreak Hits blends personal vulnerability with imaginative songcraft, yielding an album that’s somehow a living dichotomy of tragic/comedic, serious/satirical, over-the-top/subtle, and healing/hurting. In his own words, Katzman says he writes “songs to soothe your post-Y2K pop culture hangover.” He also wrote this bio.

Cali Conscious is a barefoot beach reggae band with a laid back California style. Their mellow sound originated in 2010 near the ocean, naturally influenced by the sunshine, soothing waves and the calming ocean breeze. The music blends 3-part harmonies, upbeat rhythms and environmentally conscientious lyrics to create an energetic live experience that makes your soul groove. Cali Conscious music is more than just good vibes. In 2017, the band donated a portion of the proceeds from their single “One Love For You” to Fully Fullwood’s non-profit Reggae For A Reason to help fight youth homelessness in Orange County, organized a community beach clean up once a month in Huntington Beach from 2012-2014, funded the construction of a clean water well in Ethiopia with the donation of live performance tips earned in 2013, and created a vegetable seeded digital download card embedded with carrot, lettuce, and tomato seeds for the release of their first album “High Times” in 2012.

People Who Could Fly is an indie pop band formed in 2013 and based in Phoenix, AZ. The group’s style draws influence from acts such as Walk the Moon, the 1975, Cage the Elephant and Two Door Cinema Club.  People Who Could Fly has performed with national acts including Rick Springfield, Howard Jones, Roger Clyne, and Reel Big Fish.  The band also provided entertainment for The Arizona Cardinals (NFL) in 2016.  Their album “Neon Electric” was produced by Grammy-winner Robb Vallier (Gin Blossoms, Foo Fighters, Miranda Lambert).  They have played Pot of Gold Festival, Heart of Texas Rockfest, UA Spring Fling and many local festivals

With diverse musical backgrounds, but a common bond of the music they grew up on, Rat Soup formed with a vision to spread their love of funk and soul. Early Soup incarnations featured a powerhouse rhythm section, but it wasn’t long before the band expanded into a seven-piece machine complete with a three-piece horn section. No stiff collars or starchy shirts here, Rat Soup exhibits a true do-it-yourself mentality and takes a communal approach to everything they do. In just over a year the band has developed a full song catalog, released a debut record and performed live throughout Southern California. Rat Soup has gained an appreciation from crowds across the region, bringing a fresh take on a sound previously lacking in the local music scene. The music consists of funk rhythms, groove breakdowns, soulful vocals and catchy horn lines. With a mixture of instrumental and vocal tunes, the band’s original numbers can be reminiscent of 60/70’s era soul tunes, straight funk, and jazz funk, appealing to a large base of listeners that want to get down. This can be experienced at their live shows where a contagious party atmosphere of dancing and audience participation, from call and response shout choruses to percussion play-alongs, are often part of the show. Milford Street Records – Rat Soup’s own record label, was formed shortly after the bands inception. Under this label, the band released their debut EP “For The Record” in the summer of 2012. The EP highlights the group’s first single “Climbing.” From the memorable horn line to one of the tastiest guitar solos recorded on a breakout EP, this song will not let you sit still. Other notable tracks include the heavy duty onslaught of funk known as “The Clap,” and an homage to The Meters with “Rat Strut.” The EP ends in glory with the upbeat track “The Promised Land.” It’s a spiritual plea to get up, put on your shoes and get on with life: “woke up this morning/ here I am/ looks like I made it/ to the promised land.” It’s as if the band is saying “don’t be afraid, don’t be shy, let the funk carry all your pain and sadness away.” It’s the true Rat Soup spirit. Individually they are an eclectic group of ingredients. But once mixed, simmered, and stewed together, they create the savory tasty concoction known as Rat Soup.

A Diverse group of musical backgrounds, the members of Disappointing Joseph take pride in their ability to play songs from nearly every genre of music. A group of life long friends, their stage chemistry is infectious and live shows are exciting and fun, spontaneous and packed with energy. The crowd will be dancing, singing, and having a great time at every show.
