Meet Nicholas from Tennessee – St. Jude Patient
Nicholas, 15 Years OldDuring the summer of 2014, Nicholas, a 15 year old budding basketball star from Tennessee, experienced myriad of troubling symptoms—including nausea and persistent fatigue—that wouldn’t go away. His pediatrician ran Nicholas’s bloodwork twice before instructing the family to head directly to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®. Further tests revealed Nicholas suffered from acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common form of childhood cancer. His treatment at St. Jude will include two-and-a-half years of chemotherapy.
Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to 80 percent since it opened 50 years ago. Even in the midst of treatment, Nicholas shares his gratitude for everything St. Jude has done by sharing his story. “The entire family has become passionate about the vision of St. Jude,” said his mom. Nicholas is a sophomore in high school, and he hopes to be a pro basketball player someday.
