Annual running event gets into the Carnival spirit by selecting royalty for “parade” of runners; Submissions for Rock ‘n’ Roll King and Queen open today
NEW ORLEANS, LA – January 20, 2016 – Today, the Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans Marathon & ½ Marathon opened registration for the 2016 New Orleans Rock Royalty Competition. Out of more than 20,000 runners, two lucky individuals will be crowned King and Queen of the race set for February 28. Submissions open today, January 20 and close at midnight on February 3.
The King and Queen will each receive world class royal treatment with a one night hotel stay on race weekend, two race day VIP passes, a feature in the official event guide and a royal procession at the race start line. Winners will be announced on February 8.
To enter the competition, individuals can post a picture showing their Rock ‘n’ Roll and Mardi Gras spirit on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #NOLARoyalty or email their picture to firstname.lastname@example.org. Participants must be registered for the Humana Rock n’ Roll New Orleans Marathon, ½ Marathon or 10K. Further details can be found online.
“This year, our marathon will fall just after Mardi Gras, and our runners will keep the celebration rocking and rolling,” said Luke Wright, event manager. “Naming a King and Queen for our running parade is a great way to celebrate the unique culture and spirit of New Orleans.”
Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans weekend returns February 26-28, 2016 with more than 20,000 runners. The course starts on Poydras Street near Lafayette Square before heading down the mansion-lined St. Charles Avenue, through the French Quarter and then down Esplanade Avenue before finishing in City Park.
The event concludes with a dual headliner concert and finish line festival in City Park. Local favorite Preservation Hall Jazz Band will be rocking the post-race Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series followed by Virginia-based group, J. Roddy Walston & the Business. In addition to the two headliners, local bands and live musicians will be stationed along the course to entertain runners as they make their way to the finish line.
Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans is the first destination for runners trying to earn the 2016 Limited Edition Southern Charm Medal. The exclusive medal will be given to runners who complete three out of four southern Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathons or ½ Marathons in New Orleans, Raleigh on April 10, Nashville on April 30, and Savannah on November 5.
Event weekend kicks off with a two-day Health & Fitness Expo at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center featuring more than 60 vendors with the latest in running gear, nutrition and training tips. The expo is free and open to the public.
