Celebrating 40 Years Running Philly!

Philadelphia: Home to the Liberty Bell, the best cheesesteaks in the country, and America’s fastest half marathon course.

September 17, 2017 will mark this race’s 40th year running since its inaugural event in 1978. Originally known as the Philadelphia Distance Run, the American Association for Cancer Research Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon reigns as one of the fastest and flattest courses in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series.

Over the years, runners have broken PRs and smashed more than a world record or two. In honor of 40 years running of this historical event, we pulled together some of the top race moments, by the numbers, going back to its roots as the Philadelphia Distance Run.

Read more about some of these top moments on the Tempo, and join us in September for the first fall block party in the Series to celebrate 40 years of running Philly!
