Music makes up the heart and “sole” of this event. Live bands will be performing a variety of music from alternative, classic and punk rock to blues, jazz and soul along each mile of the race course. The bands set the tempo for this half marathon party, where runners and spectators alike will be “dancin’ in the streets” to these mini-concerts.
Many millennia ago, the earth and sky gave birth to the mighty Tytans– Kronos, Okeanos, Hyperion & Prometheus – who ruled benevolently during a period known as “The Golden Age.” Unnerved by an ancient prophecy, Kronos grew fearful of his own children and devoured each of them whole. After escaping their father’s belly, Zeus and his siblings waged a great war, eventually overthrowing and entombing the Tytans deep in Tartarus; the dark abyss where ancient souls are cast away to rot in perpetual punishment. Regrettably, the reign of the new gods became tainted by Zeus’ power-hungry greed and monstrous infidelities. As the Golden Age decayed into turmoil, the Tytans, with the aid of Zeus’ daughter Athena, were released from their prison and seek refuge in the modern age. Now living in secret and concealing their powers, the Tytans have formed a rock band in the hopes to convert new followers into an army of Demigods to help battle Zeus and return the Tytans to their rightful place among the heavens. And thus, STEREOTYTANS was born!
In the summer of 2014, Pepperwine added a bass and drum rhythm section, effectively transitioning the band from an acoustic trio to a heavy-hitting, four-piece groove-rock outfit. Since then the band has been busy writing original music, booking gigs, and [shameless] self-promoting – while finding just enough time to enjoy a cup of coffee. They have no plans of slowing down. Somebody needs to save the ears of the world. Somebody needs to take over the airwaves with a fresh new sound. That somebody is PEPPERWINE!
Vertical Current is a band on the rise, a name on the lips of music lovers in one of the greatest musical cities in America, Philadelphia. The band was started in 2009 by local trumpeter and composer Christopher Stevens, while pursuing a music degree from Temple University. Since then, Vertical Current has become the go to band for visiting artists from the likes of Grammy Award winners Chrisette Michele & Kelly Price to the awe-inspiring Frank McComb. Additionally, the band has opened for a number of notable artists including The Robert Glasper Experiment, Raheem DeVaughn, and Eric Roberson with whom they later did a summer/fall tour promoting his album, The Box.
Individually, the members of Vertical Current have traveled throughout the world, performing and recording with an array of celebrated and award winning artists including Roberta Flack, John Legend, Jazmine Sullivan, Jill Scott, The Roots, and more. It’s no surprise that their interaction with such amazing artists and composers has further kindled Vertical Current’s passion to create and perform at the highest level.
VC’s brand of music is a unique blend of genres that is intended to uplift and inspire. The band currently has two CDs available, their eclectic 2011 debut EP “aRe” (co-produced by Philadelphia hit-maker Donald Robinson) and their first full-length project “Bright Side of Midnight” which was released in the summer of 2014. The band has been busy crafting fresh material for their next album and hopes to further inspire the world with great melodies and a message of hope!
First Highland Watch is Philadelphia’s premier Bagpipe Rock and Roll band, infusing bagpipes with Rock music, while also performing traditional Celtic songs and amping them up with an edge. Since the release of their 2011 debut album “Drunken Piper”, First Highland Watch has accrued many accolades. Along with opening at a Philadelphia Union soccer game and various Reading Phillies games, the band has been a key hallmark at the Philadelphia Rock and Roll Marathon for the past several years and has been the main musical act at the annual Washington Crossing Brewfest since 2013. The band has also played Wildwood’s Annual Irish Festival from 2011-2013, and even headlined the main stage in 2012 & 2013, as well as being voted one of Celtic Music Podcast’s “Top 20 Celtic bands of 2012”. To date, one of the band’s most rewarding accomplishments was opening up for the world reknowned Irish band , The Wolfe Tones, in March 2013. They are currently booking gigs, and promoting their newest album, aptly named “First Highland Watch” (also known as the “Plaid” album), and will be looking forward to playing and promoting in 2016.
What can you expect at a First Highland Watch show? How about some Ted Nugent, Pink Floyd, Chuck Berry, and many more like you’ve never heard them! The fun doesn’t stop there. You will be roped in by melodic, hard-driven originals that will leave you speechless. Visit www.facebook.com/firsthighlandwatch to see what the band is up to today!
