The 2016 Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh Marathon & 1/2 Marathon presented by WRAL with featured charity The V Foundation included some of the most iconic and beautiful areas Raleigh has to offer. Check out some of the highlights that you’ll be running by and check out the courses!:
- Start Line: S. Salisbury Street and W. Davie Street
- Mile .75: Sir Walter Raleigh & the Raleigh Convention Center
Pass by the Raleigh Convention center which boasts the statue of Sir Walter Raleigh, the English adventurer that North Carolina’s capital was named after.
- Mile 2: Museum of Natural Sciences
Run by the gorgeous North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences which is the most visited museum in North Carolina.
- Mile 5: Historic Oakwood Cemetary
Don’t be frightened, this historic cemetery boasts 102 acres of gorgeous land to honor and remember the departed and has been around for almost 150 years.
- Mile 9: North Carolina State University
Look to your left to see the expansive North Carolina State University, home of the Wolfpack!
- Mile 18: Lake Johnson
Pass by the beautiful Lake Johnson that has over 5 miles of trails, boating and fishing.
- Mile 12 (Half Marathon) – Mile 25 (Marathon): King of the Hill Challenge!
There was an extra challenge on course– who could make it to the top of the hill of Boylan Ave the fastest? Every participant received an additional split time up the hill and the top 3 fastest male and female participants will won an award! You didn’t have to be the fastest overall to win this – just be speedy to the top of our hill and to claim victory! WHO ELSE EATS HILLS FOR BREAKFAST?
- Finish Line: City Plaza
Finish on Fayetteville Street and E Davie by the City Plaza and downtown farmers market.
