Ever wonder who’s standing next to you in your corral at the start line, or cheering you on when you’re about to give up during a race? We’ll be featuring guest bloggers that have a passion for Rock ‘n’ Roll and inspire us by their dedication and commitment to the sport of running. You may recognize their faces, but the purpose of these posts is to put a face behind the name to better understand their journey to self-discovery.
Today’s post comes to us from guest contributor Monica, author of Run,Eat, Repeat. Marathoner, certified personal trainer, food fanatic and Rock ‘n’ Roll Ambassador. Read about how she fell in love with running and still remains a lover of food!
Hello! My name is Monica and I live in Southern California.
I found running by accident actually, a happy accident – I started walking in college to lose weight. One day I got bored and tried to run a bit. Turns out – I loved it! And I’ve been running ever since.
Well… maybe it wasn’t that quick. I trained for my first marathon in 2009 and blogged about my journey on “RER”. Several blisters, chafing burns and miles later – I did it! And I built a strong blog following and deep passion for distance running in the process.
While I was having fun running, I was also EATING a lot. Since I wanted to lose weight I started researching and learning about ways to cook healthy, delicious food. Eating and exercise go hand in hand, so it was great to see how I could improve my running by learning about fueling my body in the right ways. Now I love creating tempting recipes that are healthy and mouth-watering at the same time!
My journey has taken me so many places and I love helping others learn about running and healthy eating. I am a certified personal trainer and running coach and will soon be a fitness nutrition specialist.
This year my goal is to run 13 half-marathons in 2013. I started the year strong and ran Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona for a PR! I look forward to sharing my journey by providing tips and tricks to keep you motivated along the way as a contributor on the Rock ‘n’ Blog team!
