Before reaching the start line on race day, teams of people never cease to work behind the scenes to deliver you the Rock ‘n’ Roll experience. So who are those people making our events operationally sound, overseeing the promotions you hear about, and planning all the details of race day logistics?
Role: Vice President of Events Division
Originally hailing from El Paso, Texas, Alan began running at a young age and considers himself a lifelong runner. Prior to joining Competitor Group, he was an Olympic level runner for 10 years and also owned his own running specialty store. Not new to the endurance event world, he also dabbled in the production side of events by doing on air commentating for the Boston and NYC Marathon.
In his current role, Alan oversees the comprehensive planning for the events in the Central Division. This entails being the conduit between the event management, operations, and marketing teams to ensure all the moving pieces culminate to a successful race weekend.
Favorite Part of His Job:
Having been with CGI for three years, Alan comments that the most rewarding part of his job comes from producing a world class event where runners are able to complete an amazing goal:
“…Providing a platform for people to accomplish something they never thought possible, achieve a personal best or simply have an amazing experience… If a runner wants to complete a half or full marathon with a high level of success they need to prepare and the same metaphor holds true for our events. It is hard to comprehend all that goes into any event large or small but we plan all year long for one day and we try our very best to think through every possible scenario and plan accordingly.
In his spare time…
With four children at home, Alan’s spare time is dedicated to being a family man and enjoying family activities. He loves running more than ever and is also able to get out and go for a run most days. After his 11-year old took up tennis he has also taken a liking to the sport in addition to enjoying riding motorcycles and dirt bikes.
If you ever need to start a band, Alan’s your guy! He grew up playing piano, guitar and the bass.
Course designer and Olympian Alan Culpepper brings his experience from the world’s most iconic courses to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series. Watch why it matters.
