Ever wonder who’s standing next to you in your corral at the start line, or cheering you on when you’re about to give up during a race? We’ll be featuring guest bloggers that have a passion for Rock ‘n’ Roll and inspire us by their dedication and commitment to the sport of running. You may recognize their faces, but the purpose of these posts is to put a face behind the name to better understand their journey to self-discovery.
Most of the people that know and love me, just call me B. I am from Sweet Home Alabama…born and raised!
I started running just after turning 30, just after creating my “bucket list” and deciding that I wanted to run a marathon. I am not an athlete and never have been. And certainly had no clue that a marathon was 26.2 miles!
I have always loved seeing runners with numbers on their shirt, stopping traffic, and exhibiting that test of endurance. So I wanted to give it a shot! I bought a cute “running outfit” and the rest….well, it’s not history yet…I am still in it!
I did my first Rock ‘n’ Roll race in 2009, in Nashville. (Country Music Marathon) I ran the full marathon and finished in record degree heat, with an awful finish time. But my hubby and I stayed together, and we finished. I have always had a love/hate relationship with those Nashville hills, but I love that run, the music, the energy, and yes…conquering those hills! I love it!!!!
There’s just nothing better than crossing the finish line. Ok, well, maybe the country music at the post-party, and a cheeseburger at the Wild Horse Saloon! But, you get my point 😉
When someone asks about running a full or a half the advice I give is always recommending a Rock ‘n’ Roll race! The energy along the course is spectacular! From one mile to the next; the crowds, the volunteers, the music, the fun! It is an ABSOLUTE BLAST!!!! If it’s your first race, or your worst race, you still cross the finish line like a ROCK STAR!
Some of Brittney’s favorite signs along course:
“Hey, stranger! I am proud of you”
“You are better than everyone on the couch this morning”
