Ever wonder who’s standing next to you in your corral at the start line, or cheering you on when you’re about to give up during a race? As runners we all have a story, a motivation to run whether it’s a personal challenge, to stay fit, bond with friends, working through a difficult time or running for charity.
Three years ago during Christmas-time, Katherine Dagenais posted a classified ad determined to spread holiday cheer. She offered gifts, a meal, and a helping hand to those in need in her community. With over 4,000 replies, she took a full time job in order to pay for the things that people needed (not one person was excluded).
On Christmas Eve, she and her family delivered to over 40 families so they could have gifts under the tree, food on the table, and money to visit their loved ones. This experience changed her life and she decided to commit five years of her life volunteering and spreading faith in humanity by running a charity marathon in EVERY U.S. State.
She bought a Rock ‘n’ Roll TourPass with the goal to run at least 10 states this year, and completed her 32nd charity race at Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon & 1/2 Marathon on March 15th. “On top of each charity marathon I will be: buying a random family dinner, learning a life lesson from a local, leaving an inspirational chalk message, and donating to a local food bank….” She ‘s looking forward to running Country Music Marathon & 1/2 Marathon later this month. “I have really learned a lot from giving back to the local community. Who would have thought that the Beatles got it right when they said, “love is all you need”.
