You’ve trained, you’ve prepped, you’ve packed your luggage. You’ve even taken those ubiquitous #flatrunner selfies of your race-day gear. But wait, there’s one more way you can prepare for Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon Dallas!
It all starts with a widely recognized red, white and yellow hot air balloon. Yes that’s right – Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. This nationwide organization supports research, equipment and – most importantly – patient care funding for a total of 170 children’s hospitals in cities across the nation.
American Textile Recycling Service (ATRS) is a proud sponsor of the Competitor Group and supports Children’s Medical Center in Dallas and Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth through a year-round Clothing & Shoe Recycling partnership. Registered runners, friends and family attending the upcoming Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas Half Marathon can make an important contribution to hospital care for local kids simply by dropping off gently used or unwanted running gear, sneakers, warm-up apparel and other textiles.
Cook Children’s Hospital receiving their annual support from ATRS. You can raise that number significantly in 2015 by donating your unwanted running gear!
Before you head to the RnRDAL Expo, remember to pack a few items for recycling. Look for our volunteers at both events, decked in official “ATRS RECYCLE HERE” tees. They are eager to provide information about the philanthropic and sustainable importance of recycling your unwanted textiles. Here’s how it works:
First, visit ATRS Booth #240 during the Health & Fitness Expo to drop off your unwanted clothing, shoes or household textiles. This is an optimal donation option for many runners who will be replacing their worn out shoes or running gear as they shop the latest trends at Brooks, Sports Authority and Moving Comfort. Our team will be available to collect whatever you no longer want, regardless of the condition! Bring the kids for a photo opp with the ATRS Recycling Fairy and help us field-test the new ATRS Recycler Toss Game.
Then, consider wearing some additional layers or warm-up gear to get you started on race day. Drop these unwanted textiles on the corral rails – or just on the course – once the race starts. Even ponchos or old blankets can be donated in this manner. It’s a simple as that!

One small action on your part can mean the world to a child seeking care at these two medical centers.
