“If you want to know where your heart is, look to where your mind is when it wonders.” And the one that helps me on race day is: “Trust your training.”
Why do you run?
I run because I love it, to challenge myself, stay in shape and be a good role model for my son. As a single mom, it also keeps me busy when my little guy is with his dad. I took up running, in 2012, shortly after my son London was born. I originally started as a way to lose the baby weight but quickly fell in love with it. I ran my first race (a 10K) in March, 2013 and was hooked! I signed up, and finished, nine more that year including my first half marathon in September, 2013. I also started run streaking and completed 397 days of running a minimum of one mile a day. In 2014, I ran 11 races including five half marathons. I have Crohn’s disease and have had several surgeries because of complications. I’ve been fairly healthy since my last major surgery but find that diet and exercise help keep me in remission. My running goals are to get faster and stronger and keep having fun! I’d also love to tackle a full marathon someday.
Favorite place to run:
My favourite place to run is down in the river bottom in Lethbridge. It’s quiet and the scenery is gorgeous. I shut off my music and just take it all in.
Running gear you can not live without:
Mizuno Wave Rider shoes, lululemon crops, yurbuds and shotbloks.
When not running where would we find you?
Playing mini-sticks with my two-year old son, chasing him around at the park or hosting Bachelor TV show parties with my girlfriends.
Favorite post race fuel:
Apples and peanut butter immediately after I run and pizza and a cold beer for lunch/supper
Song you want to hear at the finish line:
Born to Run- Bruce Springsteen
