Don’t bother to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself. – William Faulkner
Why do you run?
In 2011, I was nearly 350 pounds and miserable. My health was very poor, and so was my outlook on life. I made a decision to get healthier with a local 5K as my goal. I slowly progressed to my goal, and ended up losing 116 pounds. I completed the 5K, and wanted more. I decided to run a half marathon and finished better than I ever would have dreamed. I thought my running days were over, but over the next couple of months I realized that I wanted that feeling of accomplishment again. I registered for another race, completed it, and still wanted more. Now there is no turning back. I am obsessed, and I will continue to push myself until I physically cannot anymore.
Favorite place to run:
For training, I like to run the Shelby Farms Greenline in Memphis. I can focus on my miles without many distractions and connect with nature as well as fellow runners. Fro races I love urban settings so I can see what a city has to offer.
Running gear you can not live without:
My FlipBelt. I have asthma, so I must carry an inhaler with me at all times even though I have never had to use it (And hopefully never will). It also allows me to carry my keys, phone (with music), money, ID, and race fuel without bogging me down.
When not running where would we find you?
Everywhere. I attend University of Memphis football and basketball games, Ole Miss football games, attend MPA classes at the University of Memphis, volunteer with various local charities, serve on the PTA Board for Rivercrest Elementary School, run multiple races each month. I also love my USMC Fitness Boot Camp classes every weekday morning.
Favorite post race fuel:
Chocolate milk! I great balance of carbs and protein while also channeling my inner fat kid.
