I love “run the mile you’re in,” “don’t think just run,” and “breathe.”
Why do you run?
Why do I like vanilla ice cream way better than chocolate ice cream? Why do I think elephants are the best animal? It’s hard to explain these answers to someone, which is how I explain that it’s difficult to talk about why I run. It’s simple – I just love it. If I tried to explain why, it would go something like this: Running is my “me” time – I often run alone, so it’s time for me to do all my thinking and solve the problems of the world. When I run with friends, it’s a reminder of how great this sport is and how it can bring people together. Running has taught me about my body – how my lungs, heart, and muscle work together. Running has taught me that it in itself is a gift and something to be thankful for, as it could be taken away one day. Running has allowed me to travel the world, to meet people from all over. I’m an introvert, but I can talk about running to anyone for hours. Running teaches me to push myself, to set goals and work to achieve them…and that sometimes you don’t achieve those goals, and that’s okay too, you just get to work harder. But at the end of the day, it simply makes me happy.
Favorite place to run:
I love Central Park for all the people, but at the same time, I love my old high school running routes. It’s where I spend the beginning and formative years of my running life, and I could probably still run the routes with my eyes closed. The ability to just get out and go without thinking is something awesome.
Running gear you can not live without:
I’ve been running in Brooks shoes since I was 17 – they’re the best and here to stay. I also love Garmin watches.
When not running where would we find you?
I’m a nurse, so possibly at the hospital! Traveling is also a passion, so I like to get out and explore whenever I can. I might be in the kitchen as well – cooking and baking are delicious hobbies to have!
Favorite post race fuel:
To be honest – a Slurpee never tastes better than after a hot long run! But I know I need some protein, so I drink chocolate milk too.
Song you want to hear at the finish line:
I want something that is going to pump me up for that final push or make me excited to be at the finish line – Lady Gaga’s “Applause” comes to mind!
