Growing up as an American boy in Honduras, David took full advantage of his unique experience and learned to speak three languages – English, Spanish and a local dialect of the island where he lived. But when David began feeling ill during April of 2016, doctors discovered he suffered from acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
David lived with his grandfather, a cancer survivor himself who was determined to have his grandson treated in the United States. At the recommendation of doctors, David and his grandfather made the journey from Honduras to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, where David is currently undergoing nearly three years of chemotherapy treatment.
Runners who fundraise for St. Jude while training for their race are called St. Jude Heroes, and they’re helping kids, like David. The funds raised by Heroes help ensure families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
“This is a truly special place,” said David’s grandfather. “It is a drop right down from heaven.”
David is a smart boy who plays the piano and guitar. When he grows up, he wants to be a veterinarian.Run for St. Jude
