  • Race weekend returns June 3 – 5; Online registration open at RunRocknRoll.com

The Suja Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon & ½ Marathon today announced a revamped half marathon course and unveiled a new finish line at Waterfront Park for the 2016 event.

The marathon and half marathon will continue to start in Balboa Park, with both distances starting together at 6:15 am. San Diego’s iconic marathon will take place the weekend of June 3 – 5, 2016.

“Nothing says San Diego like a finish line on San Diego Bayfront,” said Ken Schulte, Marathon Course Director. “Waterfront Park keeps us true to our roots of finishing downtown and will offer some breathtaking views of San Diego Bay and the downtown skyline. Runners taking on the half marathon can expect a fast course and mostly downhill route highlighting some of San Diego’s most eclectic neighborhoods. This new route promises to be a party from start to finish.”

The 13.1-mile half-marathon course will take off from Balboa Park before venturing through Hillcrest followed by North Park and Normal Heights. Runners will once again experience San Diego’s beautiful neighborhoods, historic areas and scenic parks before finishing downtown at the County of San Diego’s new Waterfront Park. A revamped marathon course will be announced at a later date.

In true Rock ‘n’ Roll fashion, live bands, enthusiastic cheerleaders and spectators will line the race route, concluding with a celebratory finish line festival and post race Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series.

The 2016 race will once again feature a second day of running with the Rock ‘n’ Roll 5K presented by Brooks on Saturday, part of what’s dubbed the Remix Challenge. Runners who complete the 5K, plus the half marathon, marathon or half marathon relay on Sunday will receive a medal for each race, plus a special Remix Challenge medal.
