San Jose, CA – September 25, 2014 – Rock ‘n’ Roll San Jose, California’s fastest half marathon is ready to rock with more than 16,000 participants expected to compete on October 5. This year Rock ‘n’ Roll San Jose is more than just a one day race with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Festival. Runners can participate in both the 5k on Saturday, October 4 and the 10k or half marathon on Sunday, October 5. Runners that compete both days will earn even more medals and complete the Remix Challenge.
“This event brings the entire community together in a positive way and offers a welcoming atmosphere that encourages people of all shapes and abilities to make it to the finish line,” said Roger Craig, 3-time Super Bowl champion for the San Francisco 49ers and co-founder of the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Jose Half Marathon.
The flat, fast course along downtown San Jose is ideal for runners seeking to achieve their personal best, and annually welcomes an impressive field of athletes. The event is home to both of the current California state half-marathon records: 1:00:22, set by Kenya’s Duncan Kibet in 2006, and 1:09:17, established by Silvia Skortsovaof Russia in 2006, earning it the title of California’s fastest half marathon.
The race is one of the most convenient a runner could find with the start, finish, hotels and Health & Fitness Expo all within a few short blocks. Runners will start at W. Santa Clara St. and Almaden Blvd. and tour the sights of the Bay Area city, running past City Hall, through Japantown, out and back on The Alameda and through the Rose Garden neighborhood.
Local bands will play through the streets of San Jose, along with spectators and high school cheerleading teams lining the route to motivate runners to the finish line. Upon finishing at Plaza de Cesar Chavez, participants are invited to relax and celebrate with family and friends as headliner Echosmith takes the stage for the post-race concert.
Race weekend kicks off with a free Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, October 3 and Saturday, October 4 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. The free expo is open to the public and will showcase the latest in running products, services and free samples from fitness experts as all registered runners pick up their race number, t-shirt and timing tag.
