- Grammy Award nominee to perform at finish line festival on June 18
- Annual summertime race will now take place on a Sunday
Grammy Award nominee, Mayer Hawthorne will headline the post-race Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series at the 9th annual Alaska Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon & ½ Marathon, a signature Seafair Event on Sunday, June 18, 2017. Mayer Hawthorne will perform for thousands of runners and spectators at the finish line festival. The concert is free and open to the public.
“Participants are in for a treat on race day,” said Miyoko Beetem, event manager. ”In addition to Mayer Hawthorne, live bands will be staged throughout the course from start to finish. Those who are joining us to achieve their fitness goals deserve to have fun and be entertained along the way—that’s our goal at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series.”
Mayer Hawthorne has released a variety of studio albums including Grammy Award nominee, How Do You Do, Where Does This Door Go and most recently Man About Town. Prior to recording soul music in LA, Hawthorne DJed in Michigan at the height of Detroit hip-hop. He gets his musical influence from numerous artists including, Bob Marley, Sly Stone, Barry White and more. Hawthorne has been a musical guest on Conan and the Late Show with David Letterman.
In true Rock ‘n’ Roll fashion, live bands, enthusiastic cheerleaders and spectators will line the race route, concluding with a celebratory finish line festival and Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series.
Race weekend kicks off with a free Health & Fitness Expo, where runners can find the latest in running technologies, fitness apparel, health and nutrition information and interactive displays. The Expo takes place at CenturyLink Field Event Center on Friday, June 16 from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Expo is free and open to the public.
