Alaska Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon & ½ Marathon, a signature Seafair Event today announced a brand new course for the 2017 event. The route will feature an updated start line next to The University of Washington’s Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium and new sights highlighting the beauty of Seattle. Alaska Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle returns on June 18 with the event taking place on a Sunday for the first time.

The marathon and half marathon will take off at 7:00 a.m. on Montlake Blvd. before crossing over Montlake Bridge. Next, runners will head through Washington Park Arboretum followed by Madison Park neighborhood where they will be greeted by beautiful views of Lake Washington. The race will continue with marathon runners breaking off towards Seward Park before joining half marathon runners on Rainier. The marathon will then continue on the Viaduct. Both courses will finish at CenturyLink Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks.

“After months of planning with our city partners we are thrilled to unveil this new course,” said Alex Bennett, Vice President of Events. “Both stadiums are home to elite athletes and raucous fans on their respective game days. But on June 18, the streets connecting the two will be the playing field as 20,000 runners take over with live music and spectators lining the route. These changes will help us provide easier community access into downtown and greater neighborhood mobility.”

In true Rock ‘n’ Roll fashion, live bands spanning all music genres will line the race route, concluding with a celebratory finish line festival featuring Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series headliner Mayer Hawthorne outside CenturyLink Field.

Race weekend kicks off with a free Health & Fitness Expo, where runners can find the latest in running technologies, fitness apparel, health and nutrition information and interactive displays. The Expo takes place at CenturyLink Field Event Center on Friday, June 16 from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Expo is free and open to the public.
