- Race weekend returns June 17 – 18 with all new 5K at Tukwila’s Museum of Flight
- Participants who run the 5K and any distance Sunday will earn three medals
- Marathon and half marathon will debut new stadium to stadium route
Alaska Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon & ½ Marathon, a signature Seafair Event today announced an all new 5K taking place in Tukwila on Saturday, June 17 at 9:00 am as part of race weekend. For the first time ever, the event will now offer two days of racing with the marathon and half marathon on Sunday, June 18.
“With the addition of the second day of running and new stadium to stadium course, race weekend in Seattle will be bigger than ever before,” said Alex Bennett, Vice President of Events. “The 5K will also provide another opportunity for runners and walkers of all levels while keeping the party going all weekend long. We look forward to cheering on all of our participants this summer in Seattle.”
The Alaska Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll 5K will start and finish in Tukwila at The Museum of Flight and will feature a flat and fast course on E Marginal Way. As with any Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series event, live entertainment will keep the energy high along the 3.1 mile course with a finish line festival greeting runners at the end. All 5K participants will receive free admission to The Museum of Flight on race day and their guests will receive 10 percent off admission.
With a second day of racing added, participants will now be able to take on the Remix Challenge. Anyone who completes the Saturday 5K and the marathon or half marathon on Sunday will earn the coveted Remix Challenge medal in addition to each race’s finisher medal.
Alaska Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon & ½ Marathon will take off at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday at Montlake Blvd. before crossing over Montlake Bridge. Next, runners will head through Washington Park Arboretum followed by Madison Park neighborhood where they will be greeted by beautiful views of Lake Washington. The race will continue with marathon racers breaking off towards Seward Park before joining half marathon participants on Rainier. The marathon will then continue on the Viaduct. Both courses will finish at CenturyLink Field.
In true Rock ‘n’ Roll fashion, live bands spanning all music genres will line the race route, concluding with a celebratory finish line festival featuring Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series headliner Mayer Hawthorne outside CenturyLink Field.
Race weekend kicks off with a free Health & Fitness Expo, where runners can find the latest in running technologies, fitness apparel, health and nutrition information and interactive displays. The Expo takes place at CenturyLink Field Event Center on Friday, June 16 from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Expo is free and open to the public.
