Right before I finished I heard my name, it was her husband. I looked down and Liz made it to the race and was sitting in a chair cheering me on. I was so super excited to see her – hugged them both. Then she said hurry up and finish. I left her to finish the race. My parents and kids were waiting for me and saw my big smile as I crossed. My dad asked, “did you smile that way the whole race?” I said of course. Little did he know it was because I just saw my BFF Liz

Note: I did the SA RnR half twice while expecting - in 2013 and in 2016 (both times I was ~12 weeks, and now have 2 boys to show for it!). Many years I ran with my three siblings - Clinton, Shaun & Brittany Haby. In 2011, the run happened to be on Shaun's 21st birthday (Nov 13), so his first legal beer was in the beer garden at the end.

Favorite Moment: My fav RnR moment turned into 'a thing' that y'all now encourage, in 2013 SA RnR and LV RnR happened to be the same day SO I decided to do both. I have been a pacer for SA RnR for 7 years. I paced 2:15 in SA then ran with the 2:00 pacer in LV! I finished with Elvis and got a pic with him! I run with the same friends each year. In 2013 I talked 2 other friends into joining my crazy train. Local TV KSAT 12 even did a story on our weird undertaking. This past year 2016 the weather was AWFUL both days but we still had fun (10k and Half) and got a sweet pic in front of the Alamo.

I showed up to the start line very sad believing that I was going fail, but knew that I’d feel worse if I didn’t try. Completing the marathon taught me that as long as I’m willing to try, there is always a chance I’ll succeed in anything I do.

Also, we like to turn the event into a weekend getaway for just the two of us, away from the kids. We get a nice hotel room near the start line, wander through the Expo and get our race bib packets, then carb load with a relaxing dinner at a downtown SA restaurant the night before the race. The excitement of race day is so hard to describe. It’s the culmination of months of training and hard work. While very demanding, it’s a celebration at the same time all the way to the finish line.

It was a cold start that day and I can still remember everyone shedding clothes in the first few miles. I am thankful that we had excellent weather on that run. Note: 2012 SA R&R I challenged my office staff to run the half marathon. I told them I'd pay their entry fee and if they finished the race it was on me, but if they dropped out of training and didn't do the race they had to pay me back the entry fee. I trained 10 of them and promised I would not cross the finish line until the last of them finished. I took each right up to the finish line and then circled back to get the next runner. Well 18 miles for me and 4 hours later my last runner and I crossed. It was my most rewarding race!

Favorite Moment: My favorite Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio moment was running across the finish at the first Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio. It was a very emotional moment. My mom passed away in 2005. At that time I was overweight and rarely exercised. My mom suffered from health issues related to diabetes and heart disease. I decided it was time to take charge of my own health and well-being. Over the next couple of years I lost 45 pounds and began a walk/run exercise routine. I set a goal to run the inaugural San Antonio Rock and Roll. This was my first half marathon and finishing was an awesome experience!
