All in Good Run: April Fool’s Day Pranks for Runners

It’s the first day of April so you know what that means..it’s April Fool’s Day! As someone born on this day (no, that’s not a joke), I’ve had experience in being both the receiver and giver of pranks. I guess it helps that I have a sense of humor too!

There’s no doubt that runners tend to be serious. We’re constantly training to run longer or faster, which certainly isn’t easy. We can spend 12, 14, 16, or even 20 weeks training for a race. It takes a lot of time and dedication but sometimes we need to let our hair down and have some fun! This is why April Fool’s Day may just be the perfect holiday for runners.

If you’re looking to pull a prank on a runner today then you’ve come to the right place. Here are a few pranks that are sure to result in a few laughs!

Hydration anyone?

This prank will take a little bit of planning, but it’s worth it! If you live with a runner, offer to fill up their water bottle for a morning run. Instead of water, fill it up with wine or beer. The runner definitely will NOT be expecting this! Who knows – it might be a nice bonus/surprise to some runners. Beer miles are popular for a reason.

Dip Veggies in Chocolate

After a run, why not invite your runner friends over for brunch? After your traditional brunch has been served, treat everyone to ‘dessert’. Your guest will be surprised when their treats are really just chocolate dipped brussel sprouts, radishes, peas and carrots.

Easter Egg Hunt for Adults

This would be perfect to do at a local park. Usually these Easter eggs are filled with candy, treats, or money. For this April Fool’s Day Easter Egg hunt, fill the eggs with weird pickles, mini pretzels and ponytail holders (these are just examples to get you started). Of course you should be nice and fill up some eggs with good stuff like money, shoelaces, chocolates, chews, or gels.

Host a Themed Run

Tell your running friend that you are hosting a themed run and that they should come in a fun costume knowing full well that you and your other running buddies in on the joke will be wearing regular running clothes. When your friend arrives decked out in a costume, the prank will be clear – LOL.

Actually Run in Costume

Can you imagine driving in your car and seeing people running in costume and thinking, “what did I miss?” I’ll actually be doing this with my mom this year! It’s not a prank necessarily, but is something really fun to do. Since Easter falls on April Fool’s Day this year, we’re going to do a short run around our town wearing bunny ears. I’m pretty sure we’re going to get some strange looks from people driving in cars, but that’s the point.

I hope that you are able to pull at least one of these pranks on your running buddy.

So tell us – What’s the best April Fool’s Day prank you have pulled on your running buddy?
