“Virginia Beach is a great city and one that we love coming to year after year,” said Alex Bennett, event director of Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach. “We have an enthusiastic group of runners who have been a part of this race since the beginning and we are grateful to them and the rest of the community for continuously welcoming us back. We are thrilled to be back for our 15th year and look forward to many more.”
This year the race introduced the Mile on the Sand beach run on Saturday, which gave participants the opportunity to take part in the Remix Challenge by completing two races in one weekend. In 2015 the Mile on the Sand beach run will return allowing participants to once again complete the Remix Challenge. Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach also features a 5k on Sunday.
The course starts at the Virginia Beach Convention Center and takes runners on a tour of the city’s scenic water front, resort area and Camp Pendleton before finishing on the Virginia Beach boardwalk. Live bands, spirited cheer squads and enthusiastic spectators line the route to help motivate runners to the finish line. The race wraps up with a finish line festival and Sunday night concert in partnership with the American Music Festival.
Event weekend kicks off with a free Health & Fitness Expo at the Virginia Beach Convention Center on Friday, September 4 and Saturday, September 5. More than 100 exhibitors will offer free samples, showcase the latest in running gear, sports apparel, health and nutritional information and much more. The Expo is free and open to the public and all runners must visit the Expo to pick up their bib.
