2016 Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach Weather Updates

If you have checked the weather, you are aware that Tropical Storm Hermine has affected Virginia Beach this weekend. Here are a few expert tips to help you have a great experience, rain or shine.

We will communicate any race day changes on this page, through email, on Facebook and Twitter.

If you would like to receive SMS updates, send the message VBWEATHER to 85007 using your mobile phone. Message and data rates may apply.

UPDATE // Saturday, September 3 – 10:15pm ET

We confirm that Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon and 5K is scheduled to start as planned.

Runner safety is and will continue to be our top priority. We will remain in communication with the City of Virginia Beach, the Virginia Beach Police Department, the City of Virginia Beach Emergency Planner and the National Weather Service leading up to, and throughout the race.

While the half marathon and 5K races will continue, high winds will make it a challenging experience for runners, and will also affect some of the on course support elements. As such, please be prepared for:

  • Limited or no start and finish signage structures
  • Modified mile markers and no clocks
  • Limited tents, inflatables, banners & signage
  • Fewer band stages on course
  • No signage at the Family Reunion area
  • Headwinds and sand for the final miles along the boardwalk

In addition, winds can impact water stations by blowing over cups. Please be patient, as you may need to take extra time at each station to have cups filled. We recommend you carry your own water if you rely on frequent water sips throughout the race.

Please be alert for on course instructions and follow the guidance of race officials at all times. You may also sign up for text message alerts by sending the message VBWeather to 85007 using your mobile device. Standard messaging rates apply.
