The San Antonio RoadRunners are one of the oldest running clubs in the nation, formed in 1973, and are also one of the biggest with 1,500 active members. What is unique about their team is that they have numerous runs / events all over the area to ensure they reach members in every part of the San Antonio community.
Their team is also a social club! Many of the places they run from are terrific spots to hang out afterwards. Spirit Nights are a frequent throughout the year to encourage the team to get together socially. Annually, the team partakes in a “Runcation” where they pick a race (usually a Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series event) in another state to train for and then travel together to participate.
In addition to all of these awesome social events they also host the Annual Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Preview Run. Two weeks prior to the event the club invites all of the running organizations in the community to run the official Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon course – the perfect prep run before the big race!
Most of their members discover the San Antonio RoadRunners through one of three ways: their (12) races they put on locally, their beginner training program, or through friends who are already members. Word-of-mouth has been an integral marketing tool for the club and has been instrumental in the growth of the team over the years. The San Antonio RoadRunners also take pride in creating a healthier community by hosting complimentary fun runs. These runs (generally through Meetups) encourage the local public to get outside and get moving, and are conveniently hosted at various locations throughout the city.
