My 4 Favorite Rock ‘n’ Roll Races

I am fond of the Rock ‘n’ Roll races because Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas was my first “big” race. I had never seen anything like it.  I didn’t even know that races had expos. I’ve run a lot of the Rock ‘n’ Roll races, which means I have a few favorites. There are many great things about Rock ‘n’ Roll Races like the bands, music, awesome medals, and just meeting new people. I’ve made some great running friends waiting on a race to start in my corral. Now it’s time for me to share my favorite Rock ‘n’ Roll Races.

Why I ll Be Raising a Pint This Summer at Rock n Roll Dublin

My wife and I decided 2018 was going to be the year we took a race-cation, as we have been talking about it for some time. Dublin, Ireland has always been at the top of our travel wish list–really, a bucket list item for me. We’ve never been to Ireland–or to Europe, for that matter–and when we saw that the Affidea Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin was happening this August, we knew this was it. The event would be a magnificent chance to visit, explore, and run where our family’s roots run deep.

Let the good times roll at Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans: Laissez les bon temps rouler

What better way to celebrate New Orleans’ 300th anniversary than to run a Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon Series half marathon! Humana #RnRNOLA has got to be one of the most, if not the most, colorful race weekends out there. And the most energetic. And the most beaded. Earlier this month, those colors, that energy, and of course those beads were in their full, enchanting display on race weekend.

How Well Does Running Fitness Translate to Other Sports?

If you’re familiar with CrossFit Endurance, you know that one of its claims is that runners can improve their long-distance race times while reducing their weekly mileage.

More than Just Cherry Blossoms: United Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll DC Marathon & 1/2

United Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll DC, also known as United Airlines #RnRDC in the social sphere, is just around the corner. In three days, thousands of runners will cross the start line, full of excitement for their 5 kilometers, 13.1 or 26.2 miles. “It’s just like any other race,” you might say. But for me, there are numerous reasons to be super pumped for running on Saturday, March 10.

    Runching 101

It happens to the best of us. Your training plan says you need to run X miles for the day, but you have COMMITMENTS: an early morning meeting at work and dinner plans with friends in the evening. Your only option is to set your alarm for the cringeworthy hour of 4am — or is it? I’m telling y’all — runching is the solution!

Run D.C. – Where To Go For A Beautiful Run!

Fall is my favorite time of year to run in the D.C. metro area. The temps have dropped, the sun is usually shining, and the leaves are beautiful. While I often run in my own neighborhood, this is the time of year when I try to get out of my usual haunts and onto some of the prettier running paths in the area. So whether you are a resident of the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) area, or on vacation doing touristy things, make sure you take advantage of the five running hot spots.

Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans: A Homecoming on a 50 State Journey

This weekend, I am coming home. There are many reasons why I am running Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans for my first Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series event of 2018 as a part of the 2018 Rock ‘n’ Blog team. For one, New Orleans has a special place in my heart–it’s where I grew up, and I am eager to run the streets that I used to walk as a kid. New Orleans is also celebrating its 300th year this weekend, and I am excited to join all the tricentennial festivities. I’ll get the chance to see the wonderful culture of the city in full force for this special occasion.

The 2018 Rock ‘n’ Roll Experience | Justin’s Arizona Weekend

“Perhaps we’d better start from the beginning…” a line taken from one of my favorite rockers… Rob Zombie. Arizona marks the first stop on the Tour each year, and since this is my running anniversary, I love that the fun starts here. In 2016, I did my very first run, and it just so happened that it was the 10K here. Much has changed since then, for me, and for the Rock ‘n Roll Marathon Series.

The 2018 Rock ‘n’ Roll Experience | Jessie’s Arizona Weekend

This past Sunday I ran the Synchrony Financial Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Half Marathon for the first time! This was my 5th half marathon with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series.  I chose to run Arizona because it was close enough to drive there from home and I know Rock ‘n’ Roll always puts on a great event!  The Rock ‘n’ Roll races are always really well organized, have a fun crowd of participants, spectators, and volunteers!  And this year they even got a little makeover with new mile markers that we could see and hear from a distance, and aid station signage!

    Running with Purpose

Caroline Veltri’s maternal grandfather, Ronald Hughes, passed away two years ago. Her paternal grandfather, Italo Veltri, died a year ago. Both passed in the month of December.

And so when the 27-year-old Veltri stepped to the starting line at the Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon on Dec. 3, she did so with a purpose.

Seven hours, 18 minutes and 50 seconds after he set foot on the Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Marathon course, Larry Macon hit the timing mat.

Confetti burst into the sky. Macon jogged beneath a balloon archway. A collection of friends and family applauded Macon’s arrival.

Mitchell Ginsburg to Run 100th Rock n Roll Marathon Series Event in San Antonio

A common introduction to distance running goes something like this. College graduate wants to keep in shape. Does 5K. Jumps to 10K. Has a little too much to drink one evening and buoyed by liquid courage registers for a half marathon. Figures, hey, I’ve gone this far, might as well take the 26.2 plunge.

    Carrying the Stars and Stripes

Running marathons beats up the legs. For Curtis Brake, he gave his legs and arms quite the workout while running the GEICO Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon.  Brake, who lives in Dupont, Wash., ran the entire 26.2 miles carrying a 3-foot by 5-foot American flag.

    Honoring Fallen Soldiers

Aquil Bey could not hide his exhaustion, nor did he try. Fatigue was etched across his face.

Talking was tiring, so you can imagine what it was like to walk. Like thousands of others, Bey completed the GEICO Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon, only the 43-year-old Bey did it wearing complete Army combat fatigues and boots, weighing him down about 45 pounds.

    Popping the Question

Steps after crossing the finish line at the GEICO Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Half Marathon, Kyle Franks tried to stop and drop to one knee, but couldn’t. Runners sprinting past the timing mat kept pushing him back.

Finally, about 20 yards down the chute, Franks moved to one side and stopped his girlfriend, Jessica Cornett, who also ran the half marathon.
