Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the largest and busiest airport in the Greater Los Angeles Area and the state of California. LAX is also one of the largest international airports in the United States. United Airlines is currently working on a variety of enhancements to renovate and improve the airport experience at United Terminal 7, Concourses 7 & 8. Scheduled for completion in mid-2017, key changes will include a renovated check-in area to speed the check-in process, state-of-the-art security checkpoints, a brand new United Club, new gate areas with better seating options as well as added charging stations, and redesigned, relocated carousels in baggage claim allowing for easier baggage pickup.

Free shuttle bus service is provided from the Metro Green Line Aviation Station. Passengers wishing to use this shuttle bus service should wait under the LAX Shuttle & Airline Connections sign on the Lower/Arrival Level islands in front of each terminal, and board the “G” Shuttle.

Passengers also can take the “C” Shuttle from the same pick-up point to get to the MetroBus Center, where they can board city buses serving the Los Angeles area. Information on city bus services is available by telephone on the Information Display Board in the baggage claim area in each terminal. In addition, passengers can obtain local transit information by calling 323.GO.METRO or 323.466.3876.

Other public bus authorities serving LAX are Culver City Bus Lines, Santa Monica Big Blue Bus, and Torrance Transit. Passengers can pick up these buses at the Metro Bus Center in Lot C.

Rental Cars

Approximately 40 rental car companies operate out of LAX, with vehicle rental sites located off the airport. Many of these rental car companies provide phone links inside or near the baggage claim areas on the Lower/Arrival Level of the terminals so travelers can request a free shuttle pick up to reach the rental car sites.

The following rental car companies are permitted to pick-up and drop-off their customers at the airline terminals using courtesy shuttles:

These companies are allowed to meet arriving customers under the purple sign “Rental Car Shuttles” on the Lower/Arrivals Level islands outside baggage claim.

Rental Car offices are located away from airline terminals. Rental car courtesy vehicles pick up passengers under the purple sign Car Rental Shuttles (purple color). Some rental car companies are required to meet customers at the Remote Rental Car Depot at the intersection of Century and Airport boulevards. These customers board LAX shuttle buses marked “G-GREENLINE” under the blue signLAX Shuttle – Airline Connection

Taxis can be found curbside on the Lower/Arrival Level islands in front of each terminal under the yellow sign indicating Taxis. Passengers will be presented with a ticket stating typical fares to major destinations. Only authorized taxis with an official seal issued by City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation on each vehicle are permitted in the airport. It is illegal for any transportation services to solicit fares, and travelers using such services do so at their own risk.

UBER/LYFT may drop-off and pick-up passengers on the Airport Upper/Departures Level only. The airport fee applies to both a drop-off trip and to a pick-up trip. Signs that state “Ride Service Pick-Up” are positioned on the Upper/Departures Level to facilitate the meeting point.
