When you land at the Madrid Airport, you know that you’ve arrived at one of Europe’s major capital cities! Type in ‘MAD’ when searching for a flight. The Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) is located only12 kilometres northeast of central Madrid.
Getting to/from the Airport
Metro: Line 8 (Nuevos Ministerios-Airport T4) connects Madrid with Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, taking approximately 20 minutes to T4 and just 12 minutes to the other terminals. Check prices here.
Bus: Airport Express Bus: Offers 24-hour service and makes three stops in central Madrid. The stops include: Atocha train station (between 6 am and 11.30 pm) and Cibeles, and on the corner of O’Donnell and Doctor Esquerdo. The Exprés Aeropuerto takes about 40 minutes and costs 5 euro. Look for the bright yellow buses outside T1, T2 and T4. (purchase tickets on the bus)
Taxis: are readily available outside every terminal. A taxi will run about 35 euro to city centre. Cash only.
Insider tips: Upon arrival, have the address of your hotel/destination handy to show taxi drivers. Get Euro from an ATM at the airport. Most taxis/transportation only take cash. Most metro stations have lots of stairs/no elevators. If you pack heavy, take the bus or a taxi. Before you depart, know the terminal for your return flight.
The Madrid Airport has four terminals. T4 is the terminal for many international flights, and has won awards for its architecture. T4 has great shopping and restaurants too. T2 houses some of the budget airline and has fewer amenities.
