Come visit “The City of Eternal Spring”. Medellín is a vibrant destination for travelers seeking a culturally rich vacation. It is a city of beautiful architecture both old and new, many green parks, and arresting public art installations and spaces. It is surrounded by natural beauty and is the second largest city in Colombia. In 2013 Medellin was awarded the Innovative City of the Year by The Wall Street Journal. Once you arrive to Medellín you will be greeted with beautiful mountains, warm weather, friendly locals, and a vibrant culture. Which is what makes it a perfect location to host a Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon! Athletes will get to run a course full of great sights while also enjoying the marvelous weather which is typically 70-75 °F (22-23 °C). Not only will you be participating in a sporting event, but you will also be enjoying a vacation. You can enjoy visiting the Plaza Botero that contains the Plazoleta de las Escultura with 23 large bronze sculptures by one of the internationally best-known artist Fernando Botero. Indulge in traditional Colombian foods, along with strong European roots from its colonial past. It is known for its innovative fine dining scene and has many options at every price point.
Medellín packs the punch of a city twice its size. Situated in a narrow valley, its skyline reaches for the heavens, setting high-rise apartment and office buildings against a backdrop of jagged peaks in every direction. Its pleasant climate gives it its nickname – the City of Eternal Spring – and the moderate temperatures put a spring in the locals’ steps, at work and at play. It’s a bustling place of industry and commerce, especially textile manufacturing and exported cut flowers. On weekends Medellín lets its hair down, its many discos attracting the beautiful people.
The city sprawls north and south along the valley floor. True to its paisa (people of Antioquia) roots, Medellín affects an indifference to the rest of Colombia, putting on metropolitan airs and looking overseas for inspiration for its next great public-works projects. The streets of Medellín will be closed for a private event and with a half marathon, 10K and 5K, there is something for everyone. We invite you, your friends and family to run the Rock ‘n’ Roll Medellín Half Marathon with us in 2019!
