Ekhymosis and Tres De Corazón to Entertain The Masses at Rock 'N' Roll Medellín Half Marathon as Co-Headliners

TAMPA, Fla. / Medellín (Nov. 1, 2018) - The Rock 'n' Roll® Medellín Half Marathon will feature two prominent rock bands in Columbia with Ekhymosis and Tres de Corazón. The post-race concert will open with the punk-rock stylings of Tres de Corazón. Ekhymosis, a popular rock band in Columbia, will then take the headline stage and keep the crowd moving, celebrating the day’s accomplishments. The Rock 'n' Roll Medellín Half Marathon is scheduled for Sunday, March 10, 2019, marking the first ever Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series® event in Colombia.

"Having bands like Ekhymosis and Tres de Corazón that resonate well with the local community is a great way to debut of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series in Colombia as athletes celebrate with their family and friends after the race,” said Wilber Anderson, Co-Founder of Colombia Tri Events. “Ekhymosis and Tres de Corazón are great bands that share our same values of promoting a healthy and active lifestyle within the community.”

Ekhymosis was formed in the late 1980s by Andrés García, Fernando "Toby" Tobón, José David Lopera and singer/guitarist Juan Esteban Aristizabal, better known as Juanes, and is inspired by a number of groups in the U.S. and British rock scene, including metal band Metallica. Ekhymosis started playing in their native Medellín before self-producing the self-titled Ekhymosis in 1988, and De Rodillas in 1991. In the late ‘90s, Ekhymosis had success by winning three Shock Awards including Best National Group, Best Song for "La Tierra", and Best Composer for Juan Esteban.

“Celebrating 30 years of Ekhymosis’s musical history at an event like the Rock 'n' Roll Medellin Half Marathon is a great way to unite the emotions that only music and sport can evoke,” said Andrés García, Ekhymosis lead guitarist. “This is a race where rock music links us with the emotions and memories of sports, and we are excited to be part of this experience.”

Tres de Corazón is a Colombian punk rock band formed in the city of Medellín. It began in 2002 with an immediate popularity amongst rock fans in Colombia. The band already has six recordings, and they are very popular in Latin American countries like Mexico and Argentina as well as the United States. Their first album, No Hay Tiempo Que Perder, debuted in 2003. The band released "Dame Una Alegría" in 2014, a tribute song to the Colombian Soccer Team, during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

“We are excited to be able to participate in the first Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series event in Colombia,” said Sebastián Mejía, Tres de Corazón vocalist. “It’s sure to be a fantastic sports event, and one of the first to bring rock music as its theme to Medellín. We are honored to be part of this event as a band that has worked for 16 years representing rock music of our city and our country.”

The Rock 'n' Roll Medellín Half Marathon will have 5K and 10K races in addition to the half marathon, providing something for everyone. All courses will be interspersed with live music and entertainment on the route with the presence of the following bands: Asuntos pendientes, Popcorn, No señal, Calibre 38, Johnie All Stars and La Doble A. It is estimated that the race will begin at 6:30 a.m., while the headliner concert by Tres de Corazón and Ekhymosis will be held at Parque de los Pies Descalzos beginning at 9:00 a.m.
