Meet Your 2023 Pace Team

scott_pacer_large

Scott Peacock- 10K (0:55) and Half Marathon (1:50)

Scott has participated in the Rock-N-Roll San Antonio race EVERY year since the beginning.  He has completed 9 marathons, including 5 Boston marathons, and over 60 half-marathons. He is currently the Director of Coaching for the San Antonio Roadrunners.  My favorite RnR SA memory was my first ever marathon back in 2010.  I had never run that far but the crowds all along the course helped keep me going and got me through those last few miles.

annie_pacer_large

Annie-Louise Ruel – 10K (1:00)

I started running in 2013, shortly after meeting my husband. He thought I was into running and I thought he was into running. Turns out this was only true for one of us. Back then I could barely finish a 5k. Fastforward a decade, I am always ready to run a half sub two. If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready, right?! Over the last decade I've participated in many races, but my absolute favorite is the San Antonio Rock-n-Roll and I come back for it every year. I love the downtown route and all the events that keep you motivated along the way. I love the community and I am so excited to run with you this year!

alejandra_pacer_large

Alejandra Espinosa – 10K (1:05)

My life as an athlete began when I was 13 years old. I did tumbling as a gymnast, but that was cut short after I was hit by a car a few months after beginning my training. At the age of 14, I became a Martial Arts Instructor at the Isao Lee Academy in Panama. I stopped teaching martial arts at the age of 18 because I wanted to dedicate more time to my studies and work. Then I got married and had my first child by cesarean section at 26. I gained most of my weight after my third child at 36, and I knew I needed a big change in lifestyle to improve my health. I increased my training hours in the gym, 4 hours a day, 6 days a week doing different types of exercise. In 2012, a friend saw me running and told me about a race: Ciclovia 5K. I registered, not knowing this would be my first out of hundreds of races. Then I decided to train in a running club to prepare for my first Half Marathon. Then it was a Full Marathon, and then an Ultramarathon. In 2015, I obtained my Master Personal Instructor Certification, as well as participated in my first marathon as a Pacer for "Rock and Roll". I've been invited to pace with other pacer companies, such as Beast and OnPace since then. I became a certified USATF Running Coach to help my fitness community.

Gerry Molina – Half Marathon (1:45)

I began running 25 years ago to lose a few pounds and it quickly became part of my everyday life.  I’ve since completed 8 full marathons, including Boston, and 8 halves.  My favorite part of the San Antonio Rock N Roll race is the short path that goes through Breckenridge Park.  It’s a small stretch of the course where they pay a nice tribute to our armed forces and fallen heroes.  I also have a fond memory of my daughter surprising me in the park one year when I didn’t expect to see her at all that day (she had a flight the same morning).  Those two elements provided a nice burst of energy early in the race. This will be my fifth SA RnR half marathon and my first as a pace leader.  I look forward to helping my fellow runners in any way possible on race day.

Xiaolong Li– Half Marathon (1:45)

Love to be a part of RnR and honored to be pacer this year!

david_f_large

David Fuller – Half Marathon (2:00)

My name is David Fuller. I am currently the Director of Training for the San Antonio Road Runners.. I got back into running in 2009. For the previous 15 years, I had been a smoker, and as I let that bad habit go, I needed something, a good habit to take its place. Running was that something. I have been running since 2009 and have run the Rock And Roll Running Series in San Antonio 11 of the last 12 years. I would have run it all 12 years, but I missed 2013 because I competed in the World's Toughest Mudder. It was a 24-hour mud run. I completed 50 miles and over 200 obstacles.

I thoroughly enjoy running. It is, of course, great exercise, but so much more. The San Antonio Rock and Roll is one of my favorite events of the year. It is such a well-organized and well-run event that it is a pleasure to run. The support along the course is great. I thoroughly enjoy the bands that play along the route lending to the “rock and roll” aspect of the event.  The San Antonio Rock and Roll also holds a special place in my heart because it was the first half marathon I trained for and completed after quitting smoking.

My love for running motivated me to become an RRCA certified running coach in 2012 which over the years has given me the opportunity to coach hundreds of people and help them improve their lives through running. For the past several years, I have been the Director of Training for the San Antonio Roadrunners and in that capacity have been privileged to see people change and improve their lives through the process of setting and achieving goals.

heather_large

Heather Breeze – Half Marathon (2:00)

Hi, I’m Heather Breeze - wife, mom, runner, and coach who loves to cook and is always down to try new food. Was a sprinter back in high school (like way, way back) and decided to try longer distances in 2019.  So I joined my awesome local run team, the San Antonio Roadrunners (SARR), and haven’t looked back. Had the opportunity to pace the 2 hour half marathon at the 2022 Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio and had so much fun helping runners hit their sub 2 hour half marathon goal. Can’t wait to see y’all out there! Let’s run 13.1!!

carie_large

Carie Hajek – Half Marathon (2:10)

Carie Hajek is a 49 year old trail runner, road runner and triathlete. She is a mother of three who loves to train for races and enjoys group challenges like Ragnar Trail. Carie moved here from Austin in 2021 and is excited to pace her first San Antonio Rock N Roll Half Marathon in 2023.

Carie has a passion for helping others reach their goals. She coached YMCA youth track and captained an ultra team at Ragnar Texas Hill Country. Carie has experience pacing athletes at trail and ultra runs like the Brazos Bend 100 miler and the Prickly Pear 50K at McAllister park. More recently, she completed a five day backpacking trip in Colorado and is training for the Austin Half Marathon in February.

tina_large

Tina McMillen – Half Marathon (2:10)

I’ve been a runner almost all my life, playing soccer as a kid and running cross country and track in high school.  In college and early adulthood, my running was mostly to stay in shape for Army APFTs as an ROTC Cadet and as a Soldier on Active duty. During that time, I did run a few marathons that I didn’t actually train for—I don’t recommend this approach—please train for marathons if you’re planning to run them.  After I left the Army, I took a few years off from running while my kids were young, I started running again occasionally in around 2018. It wasn’t until 2020 that I was able to really reignite my love of running when I started running consistently again and chasing goals. In the last 3 years I’ve run 6-8 half marathons, 2x marathons (most recently Chicago ‘23 where I ran my first sub 4hr marathon) and 1x50K ultramarathon. I love both trails and road, but have been more focused on road marathons for the last year or so.

I did run the full marathon at RnR San Antonio last year and while the whole thing was amazing, I absolutely loved Breckenridge Park where the Wear Blue: Run to Remember group lined the course waving American Flags and set up ~a mile’s worth of  Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines whose sacrifices we all should recognize and remember. As a veteran who served during the peak of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom, this was especially touching for me and something I wasn’t entirely emotionally prepared for.  It was a beautiful moment on the course and the energy the crowd brought was amazing.

asad_large

Asad Qadir – Half Marathon (2:20)

I fell in love with trail running growing up in upstate New York. After high school I did not run consistently for many years but re-discovered my passion when I moved to San Antonio 2 years ago. I’ve been enjoying exploring the greenways, parks, and neighborhoods on foot.

ran_large

Ran Yu – Half Marathon (2:20)

I started running about two years ago for preparing the TIR ( Texas Independent Relay) 2022,  since then running has been my favorite hobby.

At this moment, I have  accomplished two half marathon- RnR San Antonio 2022 (1:48) $ Ascension Seton Austin ( 1:47 ), and one marathon - Chicago Marathon 2023 (3:47).

Rock’n’Roll San Antonio 2022 is my favorite race for ever, not only because it’s my first ever marathon/ half marathon race, but also because it’s an electrifying journey filled with music, passion, and the unbreakable spirit of San Antonio.  Specifically the “ Blue Mile “ is such a powerful and emotional  segment of the race dedicated to honoring and remembering fallen service members, and this experience became a poignant and memorable part of the race.

tiara_large

Tiara Walz – Half Marathon (2:30)

Tiara grew up playing soccer, and would run in order to stay in shape to play the sport she loved. As she grew older and decided to join the military, ROTC served as an inspiration and catalyst for Tiara to fall in love with running. She started by running the streets in her college town, and then, after commissioning as a lieutenant in the medical service corps, she started doing running races. These races progressed from 5ks to the 10 miler, to the marathon, and she has since become addicted to trail running and triathlon. She completed her first full distance IRONMAN in 2015, and just completed her eighth half IRONMAN at Waco, Texas, in 2023 (the much preferred distance!). She has also done a lot of fun runs, to include the Key West half marathon, (a must-do for all destination race lovers,), the Pikes Peak Ascent Half Marathon in Colorado Springs, Colorado (an 8000 foot gain in 13 miles!), and the Run Across Georgia (RAG) with the best relay team, covering 277 miles in 48 hours with her relay team of all women! Her favorite memory of the rock ‘n’ roll half marathon in San Antonio occurred in 2022 when she set her personal PR of 149 for 13.1. She’s now interested in giving back to the sport and helping over others achieve their accomplishments the way that she did. Running is her therapy. It is also the great uniter of people from all walks of life.

keithclick_large

Keith Click – Half Marathon (2:30)

Keith is from San Antonio and is retired from the Air Force.  Although he ran some while in the military, his true running journey really started once he retired and joined a running club.  He has been involved with the local Running club, the San Antonio RoadRunners (SARR) for nearly 12 years and has held various positions on the Board and is currently the Board President. He is also a Level II Certified Coach through the Road Runners Club of America.  He has run 11 Marathons, 35 Half Marathons and one 50 Miler. He also enjoys relay races as they bring a sense of teamnwork and camaraderie.  This will be his seccond time pacing at the Rock 'n' Roll but he and his wife have run in every Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio  since the inaugural race in 2008, which was their first marathon!

lei_large

Lei Wang– Half Marathon (2:45)

I started long-distance running in 2007. And I have loved it ever since! So far, I have completed 8 full marathons and 15+ half's.

Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series San Antonio is absolutely my favorite local event. Besides some RnR 10K or half's, I finished my first (2019) and seventh (2022) full marathon, all in SA with RnR! I can't wait to see you in the race.

evelyn_large

Evelyn Herrera – Half Marathon (3:00)

I joined a run group in 2008 because I wanted to start running. In 2009 I ran my 1st half which was the RnR San Antonio. Since then I’ve done more halfs than I can count. I’ve ran 10 marathons, 3 50ks and 1 50 miler. Now I just run to keep moving.

danielle_large

Danielle M. Nied – Half Marathon (3:00)

By career, I am a university administrator in Housing and Residence Life. With running, I have paced about 22 half marathons and run 50+ half marathons and nine marathons. I ran my first marathon, New York City 2015, to honor my pop-pop who was an avid NYC marathon runner; from that I completed five of the six World Major Marathons. I love pacing! I can encourage and push people to accomplish their goals, cheering them on and helping them to believe in themselves. I enjoy seeing runners cross the finish line knowing they just completed a HUGE accomplishment!

scott_w_large

Scott Wilmes - Full Marathon (3:30)

Have completed 48 marathons. Lots of pacing in the local Kansas City area including the Kansas City Marathon & Garmin Marathon.  Paced Des Moines Marathon four times. Denver and Baton Rouge are my furthest traveled pacing marathons. Interests, hobbies, and any other information your pace team might like to know about you:  Running is my primary activity, but I do enjoy biking as well and can swim well enough to compete in triathlons.

danny_large

Danny Boyle - Full Marathon (4:00)

I began running endurance about 6 years ago. Running for me is a way to decompress and enjoy the outdoors. I ended up getting involved in an organization called Catapult in Houston- which helps enable athletes with disabilities to achieve their goals. I love being able to see and help others achieve their goals, and what many think is unattainable, which is also why I enjoy being a pacer. I've been lucky enough to guide vision impaired and amputee athletes on half and full marathons, duathalons and triathlons. I live in Houston- and have been able to pace 3 marathons and am excited about doing the SA rock n Roll as my first year. Currently I have completed 35 half marathons, 18 fulls, 2 Ironman 140.6 races, 9 200 mile relay races and 1 30 mile ultra. My goals are to get a 50 miler and 100 miler under my belt, BQ, and be a guide for a full Ironman in the next few years. Half marathon PR is 1:32  and my full is 3:15.

stanley_large

Stanley Gillespie – Full Marathon (4:30)

I am excited to be a first time pacer! My love for running started when I was a middle school basketball coach and I ran with the kids for training purposes. I’ve ran the RNR before and one special memory I have from it was watching my one year old cheer me on and track me from home!

sarah_large

Sarah Bulin - Full Marathon (5:00)

I'm 37 and have been running for about ten years. I picked it up as a form of stress relief while I was in graduate school. I'm now a research scientist and love to share my love of running mostly online. Pacing the RnR will be my 9th marathon, which I'm very excited about. My very first marathon experience was running the Rock n Roll San Antonio and I’m ready to rock it again!

kay_large

Kay Perry - Full Marathon (5:30)

Kay Perry ran several 5ks and shorter distance events over the years, the ran her first half-marathon in 2008 when the Rock n Roll made its inaugural appearance in San Antonio (as a way to get back into an activity she enjoyed but had gotten away from).  Since then, she has run about a dozen marathons, around the same number of ultra marathon trail races (the longest being 100k), and dozens of shorter races.  She volunteers as a coach and mentor with SARR’s Off-Road Runners program and is a mentor for iRun’s training as well.
