1. Rock out to an upbeat playlist.
The right music can get you totally pumped up for your race, and even help you sustain that energy throughout the course. Music can boost your running and improve your recovery after the race, according to a 2015 study in The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. Create a playlist of your favorite songs to jam to as you run. Then enjoy the finish line, where some of the biggest names in music will be waiting to cheer you on at the Rock 'n' Roll Concert Series

2. Wear your favorite running outfit.
Pick clothes that make you feel confident, comfortable, and empowered. Just be sure you don’t wear them for the first time on race day! That goes for your shoes, too. They should be well broken-in by the marathon to prevent any rubbing or chafing.

3. Remember smiling leads to better performance.
Many runners believe smiling helps them run better – and research shows that’s true. A recent study in Psychology of Sport and Exercise found that runners who smile used less oxygen, ran more economically, and had a lower perceived rate of exertion than runners who frowned. According to Runner’s World, this means potentially shaving minutes off your marathon time. And all you have to do is smile.

4. Focus on the finish line.
Visualize yourself crossing that finish line and accomplishing your goal. You’ve got this! This is the moment you’ve trained so hard for the past few months. You can do anything you set your mind to. Before you know it, you’ll be celebrating at the finish line with your family, friends, and an epic concert.
