Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group
When the EDP Rock 'n' Roll Madrid Marathon arrives in the Spanish capital on April 28 next year, it will be to the sound of vociferous support from the passionate Madrileños and, what’s more, it will be the only venue in the country where runners can qualify for the Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Championships.
Runners can earn points in the Abbott World Marathon Majors (AbbottWMM) Wanda Age Group World Rankings system, with the top age-group athletes earning the right to compete in the Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Championships, being held as part of the Virgin Money London Marathon in 2020 in a race-within-a-race format.
This added incentive will appeal to the most-serious of age-group athletes, adding fuel to the fire as they embark on their training journey in earnest over the next few weeks and months before taking in the stunning landmarks of one of Europe’s most popular destinations on race day.
In total, there are 50 qualifying Marathons across the world, 23 of which are Wanda/IRONMAN-produced events. Whilst Madrid is the only venue in Spain that offers up ranking points for runners, they can also compete in beautiful locations such as London, Bordeaux, Helsinki and Amsterdam.
