Felicity, 1 year old, Louisiana, desmoplastic infantile astrocytoma (rare brain tumor)
Babies love to laugh and cuddle and play, but Felicity’s penchant for smiles and caresses seems somehow more. She’s special. Medically, she’s nearly unique. At St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, Felicity is undergoing treatment for desmoplastic infantile astrocytoma, an extremely rare, non-cancerous tumor that developed in her brain and spine.
Felicity’s treatment included chemotherapies that have shrunk her tumors by 60 percent. She has also received supportive care, such as physical, occupational and speech therapies. “St. Jude is our second home,” said her mom. “If we had chosen not to come here, I don't feel Felicity would be with us today.” Felicity is a happy girl who loves giving hugs and makes everyone smile.
Runners who fundraise for St. Jude while training for their race are called St. Jude Heroes, and they’re helping kids, like Felicity. The funds raised by Heroes help ensure families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
