Toluca City is in the State of Mexico’s capital and is an easy day trip from Mexico City. There is much to do in Toluca; from hiking, visiting many of its churches, botanical gardens, or visit the colorful buildings. Below are some of the best things to do in Toluca.
Trail walk the Nevado de Toluca
This peak is the fourth highest in Mexico. This volcano is best known for the twin craters-turned into lakes is easily one of the best things to do in Toluca, Mexico.
Cosmovitral Botanical Gardens
The best thing to see in downtown Toluca. You can wander around in one of the most colorful buildings in Mexico, walk through the cactus-filled section, the herb garden, and the Asian plant's area. Everything is beautiful and worth many photos!
Visit one of the many churches
A beautiful church picture is a must when you visit Toluca city, Mexico. From the yellow Iglesia del Carmen, which is next to the Cosmovitral, to the Cathedral.

Toluca is great and there’s a handful of things to do in the city. If you’re wondering what to do beyond Toluca, there are a few little towns that are also worth adding to your list. Each offers something unique and is well worth adding to your Mexico trip!
Metepec
Metepec is 15 minutes away from the Toluca, well known for its Arbol de la Vida (Tree of Life), handmade ornaments and also big-scale sculptures. You can also visit the Bicentenario park which is a great place to keep your pre-race training going. The best way to go Metepec from Toluca is drive or taxi.
Valle de Bravo
Valle de Bravo is a small and charming mountain town where its center plaza offers a great variety of local restaurants, handmade crafts and the beautiful church. This area is along a lake with parasailing and watersports. The stone-paved streets are the main attraction in Valle de Bravo. It is around an hour away from Toluca.

Metepec
Se encuentra a 15 minutos de Toluca, esta población es conocida por su artesanía “Arbol de la Vida”, podrás encontrar desde pequeñas piezas hasta monumentales esculturas. En Metepec también se encuentra el Parque Bicentenario donde puedes entrenar para tu Medio Maratón o 10K.
Valle de Bravo
Es un pequeño y encantador pueblo de montaña, en el centro se encuentra una gra variedad de restaurantes de todo tipo, mercado de artesanías, el característico parque y su iglesia son junto con las activides acuáticas que se pueden practicar en el lago algunos de los principales atractivos de este destino. Se encuentra a tan solo una hora de Toluca.
