My 4 Favorite Rock ‘n’ Roll Races

I am fond of the Rock ‘n’ Roll races because Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas was my first “big” race. I had never seen anything like it.  I didn’t even know that races had expos. I’ve run a lot of the Rock ‘n’ Roll races, which means I have a few favorites. There are many great things about Rock ‘n’ Roll Races like the bands, music, awesome medals, and just meeting new people. I’ve made some great running friends waiting on a race to start in my corral. Now it’s time for me to share my favorite Rock ‘n’ Roll Races.

Why I ll Be Raising a Pint This Summer at Rock n Roll Dublin

My wife and I decided 2018 was going to be the year we took a race-cation, as we have been talking about it for some time. Dublin, Ireland has always been at the top of our travel wish list–really, a bucket list item for me. We’ve never been to Ireland–or to Europe, for that matter–and when we saw that the Affidea Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin was happening this August, we knew this was it. The event would be a magnificent chance to visit, explore, and run where our family’s roots run deep.

Let the good times roll at Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans: Laissez les bon temps rouler

What better way to celebrate New Orleans’ 300th anniversary than to run a Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon Series half marathon! Humana #RnRNOLA has got to be one of the most, if not the most, colorful race weekends out there. And the most energetic. And the most beaded. Earlier this month, those colors, that energy, and of course those beads were in their full, enchanting display on race weekend.

More than Just Cherry Blossoms: United Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll DC Marathon & 1/2

United Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll DC, also known as United Airlines #RnRDC in the social sphere, is just around the corner. In three days, thousands of runners will cross the start line, full of excitement for their 5 kilometers, 13.1 or 26.2 miles. “It’s just like any other race,” you might say. But for me, there are numerous reasons to be super pumped for running on Saturday, March 10.

Run D.C. – Where To Go For A Beautiful Run!

Fall is my favorite time of year to run in the D.C. metro area. The temps have dropped, the sun is usually shining, and the leaves are beautiful. While I often run in my own neighborhood, this is the time of year when I try to get out of my usual haunts and onto some of the prettier running paths in the area. So whether you are a resident of the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) area, or on vacation doing touristy things, make sure you take advantage of the five running hot spots.

Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans: A Homecoming on a 50 State Journey

This weekend, I am coming home. There are many reasons why I am running Humana Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans for my first Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series event of 2018 as a part of the 2018 Rock ‘n’ Blog team. For one, New Orleans has a special place in my heart–it’s where I grew up, and I am eager to run the streets that I used to walk as a kid. New Orleans is also celebrating its 300th year this weekend, and I am excited to join all the tricentennial festivities. I’ll get the chance to see the wonderful culture of the city in full force for this special occasion.

The 2018 Rock ‘n’ Roll Experience | Justin’s Arizona Weekend

“Perhaps we’d better start from the beginning…” a line taken from one of my favorite rockers… Rob Zombie. Arizona marks the first stop on the Tour each year, and since this is my running anniversary, I love that the fun starts here. In 2016, I did my very first run, and it just so happened that it was the 10K here. Much has changed since then, for me, and for the Rock ‘n Roll Marathon Series.

The 2018 Rock ‘n’ Roll Experience | Jessie’s Arizona Weekend

This past Sunday I ran the Synchrony Financial Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Half Marathon for the first time! This was my 5th half marathon with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series.  I chose to run Arizona because it was close enough to drive there from home and I know Rock ‘n’ Roll always puts on a great event!  The Rock ‘n’ Roll races are always really well organized, have a fun crowd of participants, spectators, and volunteers!  And this year they even got a little makeover with new mile markers that we could see and hear from a distance, and aid station signage!

My Return to New Orleans – Thanks to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series

As Hurricane Harvey wreaks devastation on many communities throughout Texas, I can’t help but flash back to Katrina and how she left New Orleans in total havoc, almost exactly 12 years ago in 2005. I visited New Orleans in 2007, and much of the city was still in shambles. Home sites that were a heap of rubble, torn down but left to rot. Rats that were larger than my house cats, running rampant through the streets, along the shelves of convenience stores and behind the scenes in many restaurant kitchens. Feral cats had been released at some point in an attempt to control the rat population; however, the rats outgrew those feral cats. Bourbon Street was about the only thing “happening” in town. But the bars and restaurants along that strip were eroded and dingy, and the floors were sticky. It reminded me of college days long gone, where my feet would stick to the floor at fraternity parties. Bourbon Street was one big frat party in 2005. A frat party with strip clubs. About every second or third storefront in those days had women, partially clothed, standing in the doorway, soliciting visitors. I can’t say I was impressed. Our short trip was too long, and I vowed never to return to New Orleans.

How to Rock ‘n’ Run Los Angeles in 48 Hours

Los Angeles is a trend-setting metropolis with star power that attracts visitors from across the globe. While L.A. is aptly named the entertainment capital of the world, don’t let the bright lights of Hollywood distract you from all this sprawling city has to offer. This cultural mecca has more theatres and museums than any city in the nation. Catch some rays along the 75 miles of iconic coastline stretching from Malibu to Long Beach. Shop among the rich and famous at the chic boutiques on Rodeo Drive. Stroll through some of its lively and diverse neighborhoods. End the day at the Griffith Observatory with a different kind of star-gazing.

Twelve Half Marathons in Twelve Months

In 2012 I set a pretty big running goal for myself. I’d been running road races for about five years – long enough to have tried every distance from the 5K to the marathon more than once – and realized my true distance love was the 13.1. What better way to celebrate my affection for the half marathon – I thought to myself while out on a run one morning in November of 2011 when I came up with this idea – than to run twelve half marathons in twelve months in the year 2012? And so the seed was planted, and the race scheduling began.
