Make D.C. Your Next Race-cation!
The District offers more than just monuments:
5 reasons to make the Nation’s capital your next race-cation
Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series events can be "race-cations" for the most dedicated of runners who are up for the travel. Washington, D.C. is a fabulous backdrop for just that! The area is full of highlights for visitors and locals alike ~ year-round, as well as during the annual United Airlines Rock ‘n’ Roll Washington D.C. Half Marathon weekend in March. With the help of Events DC, we've compiled a fes can't miss highlights for a trip in town.
CATCH A CONCERT
When in town, check out a show at the 9:30 Club, a venue supporting great local bands, plus national and international artists. The popular spot has hosted legends like Tony Bennett, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bob Dylan and more.
EMBRACE YOUR INNER FOODIE
For a great local food spot, Ben’s Chili Bowl is a go-to to warm up on a cold day. Not advised pre-race! But check out the chili fries, they are not to be missed.
CONNECT WITH NATURE
To escape the feel of the big city, head out to Rock Creek Park for a good dose of nature, with miles upon miles of trails.
ABSORB A DOSE OF HISTORY
Visitors can’t leave the city without visiting The National Mall, as well as the Capitol, Washington Monument and more. And weekly at the Lincoln Memorial, the November Project group hosts a total body workout, including running the Memorial stairs as the sun rises.
SPEND TIME ON THE WATER
Last but not least, head on down to The Wharf – grab some ice cream, look around at the beautiful scenery. Jump on a boat down to Hains Point for a short tour on the water.
