Liverpool John Lennon Airport is only nine miles from Liverpool’s city centre and offers over 70 inbound UK and European routes. Carriers such as EasyJet, Ryanair, Wizz air, FlyBe, Blue Air and Aer Lingus offer convenient and cost effective air travel from most major European cities. Click here for the Liverpool John Lennon Airport route map. There are buses to/from the airport to city center, and cabs are plentiful. Uber is also an option to the airport.
Manchester Airport is about 45 minutes from Liverpool city centre and offers many direct long haul routes in to the North West. Carriers include British Airways, Emirates, Etihad and KLM. Once you arrive, there is a train station located just outside the airport and it’s a easy ride to Liverpool. Last look, the train is about 17 GBP. Taxis are also readily available if you’ve had a long journey. One-way taxi fare is about 90 GBP.
Travelling to Liverpool by train is a breeze. It’s only 2 hours 13 minutes from Central London on Virgin Trains’ state-of-the-art tilting Pendolino trains. Onboard passengers can enjoy space to relax and unwind with Wi-Fi, power sockets and Quiet Zones. Virgin Trains also offer regular direct services from Stafford and Crewe to Liverpool Lime Street. Once in Liverpool, the Merseyrail train network has good links to other areas of the region and an underground rail service serving 4 city centre stations, Lime Street, James Street, Moorfields and Liverpool Central.
Insider Tip: pack light if you’re travelling by train and reserve your seat in advance if leaving Sunday or Monday. Monday is bank holiday and trains are full.
Liverpool City Region is well-connected to the UK motorway network. From the M6 take the M62, M58 or M56 direct to the destination.
To travel to Wirral Peninsula from the city centre, take the Mersey Tunnel and don’t forget the toll money! If you’re heading up to the coast, Southport is an enjoyable coastal drive away. The Silver Jubilee Bridge in Runcorn crosses the River Mersey and Manchester Ship Canal to provide convenient road access to Halton. Knowsley and St Helens are easily accessible too, both only a short drive from the city centre.
