Important Race Update

Dear Rock ‘n’ Roll Family,

A couple weeks ago we shared with you that our team has been working hard to provide you with an event in New Orleans that meets the expectations of our Series and runners. Since we took ownership of the long-storied New Orleans Mardi Gras Marathon in 2010, the event has continued its historic and appropriate residence inside the French Quarter giving participants that unique running tour aided by music that makes New Orleans a one-of-a-kind destination. Unfortunately, in 2022, with the disruptions of the pandemic and its rippling impact on events in the city, we were required to move the event outside of the French Quarter for the first time in order to host participants. While we worked hard - to continue to bring you the New Orleans flair and excitement for race day, as we all experienced together, the location and thus the event did not live up to expectation nor give the important taste of New Orleans culture that you anticipated, and we aimed to provide.

Since then, we have been working diligently with various host city partners, stakeholders, New Orleans Police Department, Special Events Office, and the Mayor’s Office on all potential event options and it was our expectation that we would be back in The Big Easy for our 13th edition. However, despite doing our very best to find a solution towards reentering the heart of New Orleans, we have learned there is not an ability to return to the French Quarter. While the community at large has been tremendously supportive and helpful in exploring alternative solutions, there are no acceptable alternative settings that live up to the historic qualities of the race and therefore we are regretfully no longer able to bring you the Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans experience that you have come to love and expect.

As we close this chapter and look back at our nearly 14 years of racing in New Orleans, we are proud of the relationships built and overwhelming positive impact we had while showcasing one of the most unique and culturally rich cities in the United States.

Together, we achieved our goal of providing meaningful events to participants while also fostering a healthier community. We are also proud to have delivered over $40 million dollars in economic impact annually to the community thanks to our amazing runners from around the world coming to New Orleans.

We would like to thank New Orleans & Company, the New Orleans Track Club, and the rest of the local running community for their enthusiastic support of the event that has had a significant role to play in the city dating all the way back to when the New Orleans Mardi Gras Marathon first took place in 1965. We would also like to acknowledge Youth Run NOLA who continues to promote healthy, young leaders through running, and thank all of our sponsors for their partnership in helping to bring this race to life over the years.

Finally, to the participants who have “laissez les bon temps rouler” over the years, we give a rousing “Merci Beaucoup” for helping make the event so memorable by lacing up your shoes and geuxing for a run or walk.

We thank you for your commitment and look forward to providing you with an exceptional experience at a future Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series event.
