The Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series team appreciates your support and loyalty while we have worked to provide you with world-class events at top destinations. Since we last hosted you in Savannah this past November, our team has had every indication that we would be welcoming our participants back to the Hostess City of the South for the 11th year.
Since then, our team has been hard at work creating an event that you, our participants, deserve especially after all the challenges the world has faced over the last couple of years.
Unfortunately, we are disappointed to share that the City of Savannah informed us on Monday, April 18 that they have decided not to provide a permit to host the event in 2022. When we heard of a potential pause to the event on April 8, we worked with city stakeholders and local officials to understand concerns and find a remedy to keep the event in Savannah. Those efforts ultimately were not successful, and we are disheartened by the decision, especially after overcoming so many challenges in 2021 to run, celebrate, and elevate our host communities.
While the community at large has been tremendously supportive and helpful in exploring alternative solutions inclusive of surrounding cities, we unfortunately are not able to bring you the Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series experience that you have come to love and expect. Additionally, based on how interactions with the City of Savannah have progressed both publicly and behind closed doors, we do not foresee the ability to return to Savannah in 2023. All those who registered to race this year in Savanah will be receiving an email with further information. Participants who have additional questions or do not receive the email should reach out to email@example.com.
As we close this chapter and look back at our nearly 11 years of racing in Savannah, we are proud of the relationships built and overwhelming positive impact we had.
Together, we achieved our goal of providing meaningful events to participants while also fostering a healthier community. At the same time, we as business had a direct spend of over $7.5 million with local businesses to produce the event and donated more than $75,000 to local charities, while also providing hundreds of running scholarships to underprivileged, at-risk youth. We are also proud to have delivered over $260 million dollars in economic impact to the community over our 10 years thanks to our amazing runners from around the world coming to Savannah. That is remarkable for an annual single weekend event each November.
We would like to thank Visit Savannah, Savannah Sports Council, Fleet Feet Savannah, and the local running community for their enthusiastic support of the event through the years as they now look to replace this established event on their annual calendar. We would also like to thank all of our sponsors for their partnership in helping to ensure race experiences lived up to the destination.
Finally, to the participants who have supported the event over the years, we give a rousing “Thank You” for helping make the event so memorable by lacing up your shoes and going for a run or walk.
We thank you for your commitment and look forward to providing you with an exceptional experience at a future Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series event.
